Why does it run about a quarter mile then starts missing and quits?

Lubricate the choke cable. it SHOULD pull out and turn either way a quarter of a turn to hold position. K and N filter will make mixture run lean. Try to turn mixture screw in or out until it runs best. You may need to fit a larger jet into the carb as it will be jetted in the factory for a restrictive air filter assembly

If started later on then is probably not battery. With car running disconnect battery, if it quits alternator shot. Engine should run on altenator with no battery. Is likely a bad wire somewhere that opens when hot. One of the most difficult and time consuming things to track down.

Your speed sensor is giving out I believe. The transmission is fine, I'm very sure of it. So in short: It's electrical!

FYI: When the speed sensor signal is not reaching the computer, it doesn't know if/when to shift gears, or what gear to even be in. That's my basic summary of why this happens. There could be more to it than I know considering it's a newer car... but I think I'm right about it being a speed sensor.

When it stalls and won't start, are you missing spark to the plugs or fuel to the injectors ?

Sounds like the same symptoms as an automotive crank position sensor (CPS). I believe your motor is equipped with one as part of the electronic monitoring system. That would probably cure the dying out problem. It may or may not also solve your miss.

I would make sure that the fuel pump is getting power. If so I would return the pump. Sounds like it's a bad one.

it may be fuel pump ? how much fuel is in the tank ? these trucks are famous for their fuel pumps overheating when the fuel level gets below half or sometimes evem a quarter tank. if the fuel tank is full you may want consider replaceing the fuel filter (as a good routine maitenance procedure)and see what happens then.
