Engine? noise Hi, I have a trange noise when the engine is on temperature. 2 scenarios: 1 While driving (espcially 3th & 5th gear) Zooming noise at arround 5500rpm Sound is a higher lower sound like you pull your finger on a diamond glass slow, fast, slow, fast, etc. Sort of 2 Slowing down (all gears AND neutral) Sounds like an electric drill/screwdriver or so at running speed to the off position. Sound equals speed motorcycle. Hope you can help me out. Or where to look for. Specialists are very expensive and i'm no newb with tools so hope to save some money and do it myself. Its hard to tell with your descriptions but my engine only engine noise ive ever experienced was because of a worn out cam chain tensioner. wasnt keeping the chain tight enough so there was a noise that incresased with rpm speed. it was more of a tick and the motor ran rough also. i had 38,000 miles on my cbr600rr so i thought that io needed to re size my shims so i took the cylinder head off and everything else on top of it just to measure all valve clearences within spec...point being eliminate simpler and easier things to verify before tearing it apart completly. hope this helps....

SOURCE: honda vt 750 backfires

First check all spark plugs(NGK are a good brand) / HT leads / plug caps. Secondly, Check that the valves are properly gapped - if they are tight they will leak the cylinder gases past the valve(s) and this will cause a misfire. A losse or leaking manifold will also. if you have aftermarket pipes then it may need to be rejetted to suit. If you got them at a dealer they will know the right jets. I couldnt find an english manual but here is a german on that may help with diagrams etc... Good luck. Rate if good.
Thanks

SOURCE: sounds like timing chain, higher pitch gear noise.

common on high mileage bikes, chain tend to stretch over years and get very sloppy. you might also want to check the gear making sure is not worn, worn gear will chew your new chain up quickly. check your timing belt also, it good idea to also replace.

SOURCE: while driving I shift gears to come to a stop and

Gold Wings do not have a timing chain they have timing belts and they are at the front of the engine and run from the crank shaft to the heads for the cams. If there is a sound coming from the shifter area I would say it's coming from the drive shaft. You need to check the shaft lube level and trans fluid level. It aslo cound leed to damage if the lube levels or low.

SOURCE: I have a 1980 Honda cx 500.

Perhaps you got one of the new Honda 1980 Tech where they are using a Turbo to gain HP(Kw). It is a white elephant but a technology experiment. Bike too heavy for turbo, not very agile. Google CX500 and read it's review in NZ Bikers magazine 2010 March edition.

It sound if the clutch is slipping while driving in 5 gear but if the bakkie is standing still and you select 5 gear and leave the clutch the engine pull dead

If it were slipping in 5th, it would be slipping in all gears. If your hearing noise in 5th, possibly a shaft bearing

Weird noise

Evert,
First, DO NOT crank this bike for now!
Troubleshooting time!

1. The other culprit could be/is the drive line - chain/front sprocket/rear sprocket. Carefully examine the area around the front sprocket where the chain rides to see if there is contact to any of the engine cases/swingarm area. IF this area is the cause you will see obvious signs of the chain rubbing something.. or the chain is excessively worn and loose and dry.
Look carefully around the drive line .... if you see nothing wrong.. then its internal

2. Drain the oil in a clean drain pan...one that can easily hold all the oil... you are going to run a magnet around in the used oil to see if there are any magnetic particles (a minute quantity of microscopic ones are normal).. you are looking for a quantity of larger chips or particles..(indication of internal damage). If a magnet does not show any unusual particles, then CAREFULLY pour the oil - SLOWLY! - through a FINE FILTER..(***** hose works well)..you need to see if there is aluminum ground up in the oil..(your engine will grind up aluminum!!) it will pack into crevices and corners...it will be very fine if it comes out with the oil. After this remove your oil filter... carefully cut it open and look for metal contamination(see above).
IF you find ANYTHING in these test, you need to find out why! This will involve a professional mechanic and some disassembly of the engine. The problem will be obvious when you get to what is causing the problem! (Either ferrous or non-ferrous should help the mechanic with the diagnosis).

Cruise control not working in 5th gear ford c max 55reg

Hi, did you already solve this problem with cruis control in european Ford Focus C-Max? I just activated cruis control in my car... It normaly works on 3th and 4th gear (manual transmission). On 5th gear it works only sometimes - I have to put the gas pedal down and then press the "+" or "RES" button, if I cancel selected speed and than again press "+" or "RES" button, the LED of cruis control on the dashboard flash for 1 sec and nothing will happen.

Hi,

There are three possible scenario's :

1, Check engine oil density, use the same engine oil as suggested by Hyundai.
2, Go for ECM reset
3, Check clutch/pressure plates

2007 FLHTCU Transmission Noisy 5th gear

Wow, valves and other related engine noises don't care what gear you are in, they still make the noise. However your motor may be "lugging" in 5th gear which can cause a symptom of an engine related issue.
You may have an issue with the actual gearbox its self.
There is a primary drive chain that may be worn which will cause excessive noise in top gear because it is putting the greatest load on the engine. This is what connects the engine to the transmission. I think there is a tensioner for your model that will allow you to adjust the free play in the primary drive chain. If not I strongly recommend replacement because this will cause major damage if it breaks.
