Just bought a 1999 Tl100r and was told that the CDI box was burnt out but would like to know if already replaced what else it could be if still not running right?

I already changed oil, spark plugs, spark plug wires and oil filter.

SOURCE: 1999 suzuki 800 maurader misfiring

did this just start all of a sudden or after being stored for a while? if it was stored then try new fuel, check and change fuel filter, and get some fuel system cleaner that goes in the gas tank, run til hot then let stand overnight. and try, old gas can gum up carbs starving the enging of fuel.

Go to this site and you can download a free PDF service manual.
www.carlsalter.com/motorcycle-manuals.asp The manual for your bike is there. It covers 1994 to 1997 bikes. Normally there is a wiring diagram in the back of repair manuals. Other than that, the wires should be color coded. Just match up the colors.

Go to the site below where you can see a parts diagram for your specific bike. You will select the actual brand, year, model, etc., once you go to the site. Part numbers and prices are also shown. You can order parts from this site. In the event no price is shown on a particular part, the part is not in stock. www.babbittsonline.com/pages/parts/viewbybrandand/parts.aspx

SOURCE: NO SPARK ON A 98 RM 125

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, test for the presence / absence of below described voltages using an analog / needle type voltmeter when starting the bike:

  • pulsating low AC voltage coming from the pickup coil;
  • pulsating voltage feeding the ignition coil.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

Hi I just bought a inner rotor kit off eBay, I 125cc four stroke,, fitted it n couldn't get spark from it, so I left the cdi box on it n put the old, original, stater plate n magneto on,my bike goes but...

You can "read" your plug to see what your mixture is.
Too rich and the plug will foul, too lean and the plug will over-heat.
Leaking oil ring(s) and the plug will be gunked-up with burnt oil.
Suggest not deviate from the factory plug heat range.

I have a 1985 xv700 virago. one of my plugs are misfiring. I had issues with my original one. yamaha dealer told me i needed a new cdi box. He sold me a used cdi igniter box from a non running 1985 Yamaha...

follow the plug wire back to the coil and see if there are any breaks, if not might switch coil with the other one and see if the other plug now misfires, if so replace the coil, most cdi problems are not intermittent, typically they either work, or they dont.
