What kind of chevy do you have because normaly its an inline filter on the fuel line and the seal is a flaired fitting that should seal when tightened and there is not any gasket . But you did not say what type of chevy this is so i don't know im just telling you what is the norm for chevy
1992 chev 6.5turbo disel fuel filter is back top of eng drop in filter top screws on
Im sorry i can't help you on this the 6.5 turbo desal is some what of an odd ball engine not to say its not good .Ijust don't have any manuals that cover this engine .You likely have a gasket to seal the fuel system on the intake manifold beause its a deisal i just don't have a manual for chevy that covers this i could show you some ford systems if you think it could help you . But a gasket it a gasket and needs to seal thats its olny job and if its not sealing then there will be a leak internialy or exteneraly and if something can leak out like oil then air is leaking in similar to a break system if oil can get out air is getting in so look at the seal at the gasket . Sorry i coudn't be of more help

CAUTION
Observe all applicable safety precautions when working around fuel. Whenever servicing the fuel system, always work in a well ventilated area. Do NOT allow fuel spray or vapors to come in contact with a spark or open flame. Keep a dry chemical fire extinguisher near the work area. Always keep fuel in a container specifically designed for fuel storage; also, always properly seal fuel containers to avoid the possibility of fire or explosion.
There are two types of fittings used on fuel filter connections. The banjo fitting or union bolt type uses a bolt and two washers to prevent leakage between an eyelet and the filter. The flare fitting type uses no washers or bolts. It uses a thread interference pattern to make a tight connection.

CAUTION
To avoid personal injury, remember that the fuel system is under pressure. Release pressure slowly and contain spillage. Wear eye protection and observe no smoking/no open flame precautions. Have a dry powder fire extinguisher within arm's reach at all times.
