Question about 1995 Chevrolet C2500
Yes that's very possible also make sure you put stock spark plugs in it and not cheap autolites cause I've had nothing but problems out of them. By stock I mean ac seldom for gm champion for dodge motorcraft for ford and bck for foreign vehicles

Hello
When you say you tuned it up what did you replace? this type of symtom can be due to defective spark plug wires and or a defective distributor rotor and distributor cap, under a load like going up a hill is when these parts break down and you get a weak spark, also the wires can cross fire due to electrical leakage, if you have not replaced the plug wires and the distributor rotor and cap do so, I believe it will cure the problem.

Yes the pickup could be the problem but it would set a fault code in the memory of the ECM (Electronic Control Module) have you tested it for codes?
To check for fault codes go to the following web site for instructions.

Sounds like the timing chain has become stretched. the timing will vary a fair amount when that happens. inspect the timing changing to see that it is not loose. two other possibilties are a bad spark plug wire or the wires were not put in the proper firing order.

Hi. Changing the coil first was a good move. Since it did not solve this illusive problem now change the plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor and I believe your problem will be solved. Joe
Thanks for choosing Fixya!!

Did this problem ever get fixed? I have the same exact issue.

Yes it ended up being the distributor cap and rotor button. They were corroded on the connections and caused it to skip
Wow, and they were only 3 weeks old. I have the exact same issue, Idles fine, put it in gear, she spits and spudders. I put a new cap and rotor on a couple of months ago, but didn't take her for a drive, so maybe it's wet in the cap?
Did you ever know what the timing is suppose to be set for?
Its supposed to be at zero degrees top dead center but you will need a timing light to check this

Just changed the plugs wires cap and rotor a few weeks ago. Could they go bad that fast?
could it possibly be the pickup in the distributor
