I have a 2000 oldsmobile intrigue; i went to go get new brake pads and when i got in my car to leave from the shop my wheel was stiff. I told the shop and basically they cleaned out my power steering fluid and it ran smooth for a little while but then my wheel got stiff again. It loosens and stiffens randomly, but it seems like when i accelerate it becomes looser and when i am decelerating or stopped its tight. Any suggestions on what the problem is? Does it take a while for power steering fluid to go in the system?I don't know why the mechanics didn't figure it out the first time.

If the power steering was ok before the brake job, I would suspect something went amiss while the mechanics were working on the car. And why, when you returned to the shop, would they clean out your power steering fluid? I don't think I've ever heard of anyone doing that before. Unless they knew there was something wrong with the power steering fluid. This may sound crazy, but I'm thinking they topped your power steering reservoir off with hydraulic brake fluid when they were working on your brakes. If, in fact, they did put brake fluid in the power steering, changing the fluid would only remove the brake fluid from the reservoir. The rack and pinion assembly would still have the contaminant inside it, which could cause the steering problem you described.

Sometimes when brakes are done mechanics will move the wheels from side to side by the wheels to get to the brake caliper and pads, for some reason this can cause air to enter the pump and cause foaming & whining, sometimes jerking. Check the low pressure hoses, clamps & replace any O-rings that may be assoiated in the low pressure side of the pump.

Warning light on are trac off, anti-lock, brakes, service engine

You need to have the abs system scanned for codes. You likely have a bad wheel speed sensor on one of wheels.

Just pd 404.00to have front brakes roters Is that too much?Thank you.

Yes, You should have paid about $50 each for new rotors , max, and about $100 for a complete brake job. Unless you have 4 wheel drive or something exotic, and your truck is fairly new, you could of had the rotors turned, for about $10 each if they needed it. ,,,,My wife went to a shop once for something and they told her that her brake pads were worn down to 3mm, and of course, most people will think, 3mm!!! Oh my, get them fixed, but she came home and told me what happened, and I said, 3mm, let's see, .120" , that is about half worn of a .250" brake pad, plenty of miles left there, they just wanted money, they make a lot of money on brake jobs.

2000 intrigue, seems like right front wheel jerks, 3.5, 153k mi

The "jerking" can be normal because that is the wheel that the power is going to..
If the jerking is "too much" it could be out of allingment or could be a warn out bushing or a bad ball joint in the front end.. Jack up the front of the car (be safe) leaving the front wheel hanging free.. **** the wheel left to right.. You should be able to see if anything is loose or not moving properly..

2001 olds intrigue

in each wheel you have a traction control sensor that feeds info to the computer. You may have pinched one of the wires. I also had the same thing happen and found that was the answer.
