Error code 1159 on hyundai xg300 2001 the light for oil keeps flickering. When entering freeway or going uphill check engine sign shows up for a second or two and the car shudders.

P1159 indicates the variable intake valve does not reach its desired position. Expect to need to replace the intake plenum to resolve this.

* Fuel trim represents the amount of time the fuel injector opens for each intake cycle, expressed as a percentage above the expected amount of open time based on the data from the oxygen sensors, air flow sensor, and throttle position sensor.
The P1159 code means that the actuator cannot move the plates to the desired position. Either the actuator has failed or the plates have stuck in place. In the former case, repair is probably impossible. In the latter, the potential is there that you could disassemble the plenum and free up the components when you discover what it is that is keeping them from moving properly. In either case, the individual parts of the plenum aren't available separately, so if the issue requires a part replacement, you'll need to replace the entire plenum. thanks.

My 2001 XG300's rpms get erratic when car is stopped. When I take off from a red light it struggles past 20 mph and the check engine light will come on until I let go of the gas, then it usually goes back...

It sounds like you may be having a problem with the throttle position sensor in the engine compartment.
It's expensive, but you should try some fuel injector cleaner before you do any major work.
If you see improvement with the cleaner, consider having the injectors cleaned. It may be all you need and it is cheaper than having the sensor changed.
Best wishes!

Year 2001 XG300 P0115, P1159, P1191, P1193, P0115

P0115 - Engine Coolant Temp Sensr - open/short
P1159 - Variable Intake Motor Malfunction

P1191/P1193 Limp Home Valve - Low RPM

First, clean the throttle body and check for anything which might obstruct AIR FLOW to it.

The P1159 is the Variable Intake Motor Malfunction. this motor is either 'OPEN'... or 'CLOSED' position. It is located on/in the intake manifold (plenum) and is only opened when cruising... it is closed at idle. If it sticks 'OPEN' is can cause drivability issues.

Engine light on-engine pulls when driving

If you can't comply with my requests, then take the vehicle into a Hyundai Service Center and have them diagnose the problem (pay the diagnostic fee). they will give you an estimate of repairs (parts, labor, tax, time-frame, etc). Best solution I can offer you.
