Depends on the service schedule programmed in at purchase date when new.you had a choice of two....extended(high mileage) or normal. i.e. extended could be upto 40k for a service (just highway)although rarely that long in everyday motoring.normal is 20/annually again the service indicator on the dash will light up (oel...in 10...in 20)telling you which is due.OR you can service it every year upto 18k and the car will last longer.....(my opinion)VW use full(5/30 synthetic when new BUT supply all the dealers in europe with 10/40 semi for aftermarket servicing......for normal service intervals and 10/40 full synthetic for extended.there is NO WAY (other than reading diagnostic computer)of telling which service interval was put in by the dealer network......but the dashboard will tell you...
