2004 Silverado 2500HD 6.6 litre Duramax What fluid, and how much to change the transfer case fluid? The truck is automatic (Allison Transmission) and has push button 4WD. Also, I am going to change the transmission fluid and spin on filter, is there another filter inside the tranny sump?

Make sure you have the proper amount of tranny fluild in it and get that Valvoline fluid out of it. Allison transmissons have there own type of tranny fluid and you want to use it. You can buy the right stuff from a Allison dealer. Most Detroit Diesel dealers are also Allison dealers. Look them up in your phone book and they will tell you the quanity and sell you five gallon pails of the fluid. Just get the serial number off of the side of the transmisson before you call. Change the fliters again too. Believe me, this is important. My company has Yard horses with Allison transmissions and you don't want to screw with the small stuff. Service them right and they work as hard as you want.

This model always this problem, usually after about 90,000 miles and the other instruments will eventually follow. There are companies that will repair this for you just use google (instrumentclusters.com) to find them. I was charged 185.00 for the repair... GM wanted over 500.00!

SOURCE: Left front wheel clicking. think wheel bearing.

Clicking, especially while turning usually more so points to a problem with the CV joint, or axel, the easiest way to test a wheel baring is to jack up that side of the truck until the tire is off the ground, leave the lug nuts on and try to wobble the tire in all directions, if everything seems solid it is not likely the bearing casuse the sound, another note when a bearing starts to go bad, it usually hums opposed to clicks. Im sorry i dont have a diagram, but this proceedure should get you on the right track in diagnosing the issure, good luck!!

Why is allison transmission on my 2004 duramax getting hot

Cooler lines may need flushed out. Also check to make sure the radiator is clean on the front. If you have an extra cooler for the transmission make sure that is clean also. If you don't have the extra cooler, it would be a good time to add one.

Allison transmission wouldn't shift down after I got off of interstate. after truck cooled off it started shifting again. temp was fine when trouble started. can the transfer case pump rub issue cause...

No the transfer case fluid is separate from the transmission. Transmission has entered hot mode check for restricted oil cooler. This can be easily diagnosed with a scan tool that can read transmission data.

Will a transmission from 2003 duramax fit in a 2004 duramax?

They will deefinitely providing the 2 are the same model. In 2004 the Allison tranny was available in a 5 or a 6 speed. Before 2004 only the 5 speed was used. If one is changed for the other there will be shifting issues and codes set in both the ECM (engine control computer) and TCM (transmission control computer). Make sure you are putting in a 5 speed Allison tranny.

2004 silverado, duramax and allison transmission, upon cranking got note on speedometer view that cannot engage in gear. would not go in reverse.....put in drive rolled forward and then went into reverse....

What kinda batteries do you got? Are the cables any good? Sounds to me like a power/ground issuse. Either that or you have to small of batteries to crank over a high compession enigne when it's cold, with the glow plugs, and heater grid pulling all of the power from the batteries.
And check the trans fluid level for your problem with the trans.
And you're gonna need to be a little more specific on the thunping noise.

Had transfer case rebuilt and I can't find a definite answer to what fluid it uses.

www.mygmlink.com has the answer and many more items for sale like a owners manual or service manual. I am pretty sure it is ATF though. I have not had to take mine apart nor add any fluid.
