Coolant bubbling in resevoir

Sounds like head gasket has gone. Hot gas from the fuel combustion is being forced through holes in the head gasket into the cooling system, causing hot bubbles in the coolant, sniff the bubbles blowing out of the reservoir, does it smell like fuel?

If you have engine oil in the coolant, probably a bad head gasket leak. Any evidence of coolant on the oil dipstick? A bad head gasket will show up as low compression on one cylinder, or in two adjacent cylinders. So have the compression tested.

All that needs to be done is "burp" the system of the air bubble inside the heater core.(be sure that the vacuum lines are connected to the heater control valve)


This works for most cars and trucks:
Park the truck on a steep incline so the front is angled up at about a 30* angle.
Rev the engine a few times and then run the truck VERY hard for a few times at higher RPM.
That usually purges the air bubble out and you should get heat.
Check the coolant level in the radiator when it cools down.
Fill the resevoir ,again and see how much it takes.
Usually about 2 quarts.
After one cycle of hot and then cool,the resevoir/overflow bottle will cycle and pull the bubble out of the system.

The cheap/easy way to get the coolant clean is just to use the garden hose.Fill the radiator and then run the truck and drain it a few times.
If you do this,you will need to purge the system again.

Please recycle the old coolant. Sears and O 'Reilly's will take it,free.

Get coolant temp sensor checked.

Get the coolant pressure tested, its definitely leaking coolant. You will need to get the coolant running line.

Pressure test will help you to know from where exactly coolant/refrigerant is getting leaked.

The resivoir is on or near the pump. The pump is driven by a belt. So follow the belts and you will find the pump and resivoir.

needs to be pressure checked... to locate the leak acuratly, use water to fill coolant resivoir, then pressure test it, look for blowing bubbling coolant leak.

it could be a blown head gasket or could be a stuck thermostat causing the coolant to bowel and the only place to go is out the resevoir bottle pull your oil dipstick check to see if you can see little water bubbles in the oil on the stick this kinda gives you an idea if the head gasket is blown because most of the time the coolant will mix with the oil if the thermostat is stuck close it will lead to a blown head gasket if you dont get it taken care of also you may have a slow leak in the water pump and once the level gets low its going to bowel whats left and the stem will come out the over flow tube on the bottle

Check your radiator cap...the rubber seal maybe bad...and as for your guage...check the coolant temp switch or sensor...One controls the fan, and the other controls the guage..

Gas bubbles in the coolant resevoir while the motor is running indicates a blown head gasket.
If in doubt, take it to a radiator shop and ask for a combustion gas check on your radiator.

I think you need the head gasket replaced.
