Sometimes car wont start and security light comes on. it will start after 3 minutes most of the time. if not the light goes out in 3 minutes and i can try again. it has done it for a few months and it seems random. i was told it was the key and bought a new one but it is still the same. it always eventually starts it just sometime takes more tries. sometimes its the first time.

Ok to learn the key you have to do what is call 10 minute learn , turn the key to start in attempt to start the car without turning the key off after you do this leave the key on for 10 minute until light goes out, After the security light goes out turn key off for a second or two and then try to start. If you have a new key you have to do a 30 minute learn you have to do the same thing as you did for the 10 minute learn but 3 time try and start without turning key off wait 10 minutes until security goes out then try and start again and leave key on, after you do this 3 time (30 minutes) the 3rd time is where you turn the key of for a second or two before starting.
The pass lock is beginning to fail.You can try reporogramming it following this procedure. If it still continues to happen the pass lock/ignition tumbler may need replaced. PASSKEY LOCKOUTRESET ALL GM CARS 1999 AND UP 1) Put the key in the ignition and turn to the "ON" position. Leave it that way for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes turn the key and take it out. Repeat this process (2) more times (3 times, 30 minutes total) This should reset the PASSKEY system to recognize your key.
sometimes turning the ignition on 3 times quickly without starting will reset the computer. If the van has power locks and keyless entry then try using only the keyless entry. Sometimes your car wont have a alarm but an anti theft device which will not allow it to start if it goes off or something triggers it.
you will need to do a security relearn.
1.turn key to on position and leave on
2.after 10 minutes the light will flash and go out turn the key on to off 3x then leave on again.
3. do this 3 times for 30 minutes then after 30 minutes your 3rd time and after turning the key 3 times the 4th time start the car. it should start right up.
Put your key in turn it on dont start wait 10 mins remove key wait 10 seconds repeat this a total of 3 times. If that dont work try a different key do the same thing. If that dont work a dealer needs to probably replace and reprogram your ignition switch and keys

Is your security light on. If your light is on then you have a security problem that means the fuel to your engine is getting cut off. It is a security feature built for the car so no one can steal it all you have to do is tun the key to the on position and wait 10 minutes the security light will be blinking during this time when the light goes off then turn the key to the off position and then try starting the car.
