1988 ford f 250, ignition issue. i went out to

1988 ford f 250 diesel 7.3 non turbo, ignition issue. i went out to start truck and when i turned key nothing, to start the truck it didnt feel right when i turned it the truck wouldnt turn over, soi figured the key cylinder went bad. i replaced it and still same issue, so i figured the (acuator) i think it might be called, the piece that is under the dash connected to steering column, i loosened the 2 nuts and slide it forward towards the steering wheel as far as it goes. it started once then when i put it all back together i got as far as "wait to start light" comes on. then when that goes out and i turn the key it wont turn over? what other components are involved in this ignition that could casue this issue. thanx alot

Replace the ignition switch (actuator) it is worn inside, i had the same problem awhile back I replaced it had no more problems, the contacts get burnt at that point and works now and then, so that should take care of the problem

SOURCE: 1996 Ford Explorer key to ignition switch loose

sound like the tumbler is falling out, when you open the steering column there should be a hole where a small but solid object can go in.. this release the tumbler but only when the key it turn at a certain position you will feel the pin in the hole go inwards then you can slide it out...it could be defective or just need to place back properly..hope this help..

SOURCE: steering wheel locked and ignition wont turn

Yes it does sound to me like the key is the problem.
the only other thing for a steering locking up would be the steering lock silenoid but that is activated by the brake pedal and the key has to be turned
if this is the orginal key it could be something else because the key and the tumblers inside the ingintion would wear down the same time together, but is the is a replacement key or back-up it will be the key because the tumblers would have been worn done by a different key.
try wiggling the key as you turn maybe you can get it to turn.
You will likely have to replace the ignition and key together.

SOURCE: My 1994 F-250 Powerstroke will quit running and then not start.

I am going to assume that your engine is a power stroke engine since you had the camshaft sensor changed. If your wait to start light isn't coming on then your PCM is not getting powered up or your truck is in PCM reset. In order for your truck to start your PCM needs to power up and the first sign that your PCM isn't powering up is that the wait to start light isn't coming on when you turn on your ignition. You are going to have to check your power and grounds to your PCM and your PCM relay. More then likely you are going to find your problem there. If not then I would say that you have a bad connection with your battery or something is shorting out your 5 volt reference signal that your PCM sends out to your sensors. If you need more information then this let me know. Good luck.

sounds like you have a faulty ignition switch or a burnt fusible link(located on the right fender next to the battery).

I have a 93 F250 7.3 diesel non turbo. The other day i went to fire it up and i turned the key and it never even cranked over. All the lights and electronics died and my radio presets reset. I had to take...

You have a bad battery cable or one that is corroded or loose. My '93 f-250 7.3 non-turbo did the same thing. The give away to the problem is the radio presets are disappearing. Check that the cable ends are CLEAN and TIGHT. If that isn't it, the cable itself may be bad look for swolen or cracked insulation or even heat damage on the cables.

What would cause my 1988 ford f250 with a 7.3 non turbo to blow white smoke nonstop

if the white smoke is coming out of your exhaust, it indicates coolant entering the combustion chamber, likely a cylinder head problem. good luck!
