My 1999 Mazda primacy won't shift out of park, all brake lights etc working still

Probably the shift solenoid located under the shift panel... sometimes it's the brake switch that feeds this solenoid, but you said the brake lights work when you step on the brake (right?) so check the solenoid.

I have an 02 mazda tribute and my breaks and blinkers stopped working all of a sudden. I can't even get it out of park since I can't uses my breaks to shift. No break lights either??!

The brake light switch at the brake pedal controls the brake lights and the gearshift release solenoid. It should have no effect on the signal lights. You may have 2 problems. You can try tapping the brake light switch and moving the contact plunger by hand to see if the brake lights/shift release will work. If it starts operating again, I would replace it immediaetly before it fails completely

Wont shift out of park, brake lights dont work

your brake switch is broken, its on the top of brake peddle. It wont shift from park because you need to press brake to shift from park and with the switch not working it doesn't know your pressing the brake. check connection on switch if its fine you need to replace.

I have a Mazda 3 2004, check engine light came on and brake lights are not coming on. code read brake switch malfunction. Do I need to take the brake pedal off to replace this switch?

Yuo do not need to remove the brake pedal.
Look under the dash, on the brake pedal arm. There are one or two switches that activate brake lights and/or shift unlock. Check for loose mounting nut or a missing rubber nubber. Is the brake pedal coming all the way back up? Look on the floor for something not usually found there. These switches are adjustable and it may be as simple as adjusting them. Have a helper look for brake lights on and shift lever unlocked while you push and release the switches with your finger. Depress the brake pedal to get it out of the way. Remember to set the park brake first. Could just be a bad switch or loose connector. Check fuses and the bulbs.

The shift lever is locked in park position...cant even press the button on it.What to do? (2006 Chevy Impala LTZ)

Take a look and see if the brake lights are working, the power to release the shift lock comes from the brake switch when you step on the brake the shifter is unlocked. i had a few of these that needed new brake light switches, first try starting the car and stepping on the brake pedal as hard as you can and then try shifting,if this works replace brak switch, next if that doesnt work check the brake light to see if they work if not or if so check all fuses even under the hood fuse box, hope this helps. here a picture of the shift release soleniod it on the steering column, dissconnect and slide by hand to release shifter until repaired.0b1056c.gif

My 2001 ford focus is stuck in park, stepping on brake, does not release it from park, and brake lights are not working.........

Without the brake lights working the shift interlock can't release. Turn the key just off the "locked" position and you should be able to shift to neutral and start the engine then shift to drive or reverse. Just don't shift back into park until you are parking the car to leave it.
