CarGurusSep 29, 2008 - ckf2004 answered 4 years ago. I have a 96 chrysler town and countrylx and the engine died, turned over but wouldn't start, I researched and replace the flywheel .... My van sometimes won't start because it kills the battery.

We have the same issue currently...very randomly...with our 2008 Caravan at the moment. Wife just got ...
Sometimes the mechanical system that locks your steering wheel has too much vehicle weight which can prevent the key from turning. If you can move the vehicle back and forth while someone turn the steering wheel and turn the ignition switch.
double check the battery terminal or wire connector if loose,go to nearest autozone to check the load test on the alternator, your alternator might loosing it already.
The thing that sucks is you can't disable the alarm. I had this same issue. Here is the link, you have to replace the actual board behind the dashboard, I don't know the names, sry! But I do know, you can solder them as well, that's what we did and it fixed it! Good luck!! Seems like a ton of ppl have this issue and it ends up costing you an arm and leg! http://ingriddijkers.com/CaravanPics.html
if the key wont turn you can try this a locksmith showed me spray key hole with a small amount of wd40 put key in take the wooden end of a hammer handel and tap end of key not too hard.sometimes this will work until you can get fixed
Replace the latch mechanism. There is a short in the latch. It happened on both of my vans. The latch costs about 90-100 dollars, if memory serves... 3 bolts, a wire connection, and the manual latch bar. Very easy, shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to switch out.
YOU EITHER HAVE A COIL DRIVER CIRCUIT WIRE SHORTED OR FAULTY ENGINE CONTROLLER(PCM)..CHECK NEAR TRANS DIPSTICK FOR ANY DAMAGED/MISROUTED WIRING..HAVE SEEN IGNITION COIL DRIVER CIRCUIT PROBLEMS WITH PCM'S IN THESE VEHICLES ALSO
This may or may not help. Hopefully it will. We recently purchased this
1998 chrysler town & country. Everything was working fine, started
fine, etc. we took it to get emissions done.....passed emissions..
.made it home. i turned the car off to run inside for a minute. came
back out car started.. ran for 3 seconds than died out. tried again...
ran for 3 seconds than died out... after that it no longer would do
anything. all the lights worked except in the ignition module. the top
dashboard lights worked though. I then noticed that the "alarm set"
light stayed lit. after replacing fuses and running an OBD test and
found no trouble codes or issues with fuses it dawned on me it may be
the alarm. after searching the internet
for hours i found a forum that suggested unplugging the battery for
about 5 minutes....rehook it and then try starting it again. well i
tried doing that the first time using the REMOTE to unlock the doors
and nothing happened. i locked the doors and repeated the same battery
unhook-rehook process except without using the remote... (i noticed a
lot of forums saying that the remotes can be deffective in that they
somehow trigger the alarm if the transmitter is not working
properly as well as the fact that chrysler has issues with their anti-theft systems and if the alarm is set than it will act as a kill switch not allowing your ignition to work).. so after unhooking and rehooking the battery and using
only the key to unlock it started right up! so i've decided to not use
the remote at all and have had no other problems. let me know if this
helps
