Inside the door jam, there are little pin switches to indicate the car is closed like a small switch, sometimes the wires decay, or they simply break and thus leaving the light on. check them all on each door and the boot.

2003 ford exployer int lights and door ajar lights wont go out

This sounds like the switch at one of the doors that is bad. When you close the door the switch is supposed to close but one of yours is not. I would open one door at a time and try to depress the switch inside each door firmly and see if you can identify which one it is. If that does not work you will have to remove each switch one at a time to find the faulty one.

1997 ford exibition xlt my interior light and running board lights wont go off along wiith the door ajar light on dash board. please help

Take some WD40 and open the doors and spray a liberal amount into each of the door latches. Then open and close the doors firmly several times. This will work most of the time to unstick the ajar switches.

Sliding door switch?

Do you know anything about automotive electronics ?
All courtesy lamps are controlled by the generic electronic module (GEM).
The four contacts are not switches , the part you want to replace is the door ajar switch . The door ajar switch is inside the door part of the lock actuator . Those contacts just allow circuit continuity when the door is closed , when you open the door continuity is broken or open . The GEM now know the door is open an will now turn on the dome lights . The door ajar switches stick , try spraying WD-40 into the door latch ,open an closing the latch . If this doesn't fix the problem you will need to take the inside door trim panel off and replace the ajar switch .

2003 Explorer door ajar light stay on when all doors are closed

I had this problem on my 2003 explorer and took WD40 and gave the lock mechanism a good dose where it meets the clasp on the door jam. Then open and close the doors a couple of times to get them working. They get gummed up and sometimes have a tendency to stick.

Inside lights

Remove "Door Ajar" switch. Clean the switch and use a graphite type lubricant (I recommend "Dry-Slide") to lubricate the actuator on the switch. Reassemble the switch.

The switches are located inside the door panels, attached to the catch mechanism.

1) Remove interior door panel.

2) Using a T-27 Torx driver, remove the 3 bolts holding the catch in the door.
2a) The door ajar switch is the only part on the mechanism with the 2-wire harness.
2b) The switch is located at the rear catch for the sliding door.

3) Using a small flat screwdriver, gently lift the black tab on the catch mechanism and rotate the switch to remove it from the catch assembly.

4) Using a rag, clean the small round actuator and apply a small amount of graphite lubricant to the actuator and work the switch so it moves freely.

5) Reassemble the catch and the door.
