Horn on ford explorer 2004 is continuously working when i beep the horn . I was told by electrician I need to replace horn sensor ,where is the horn sensor located & can it be bought used , thank u

more then likely it's a door ajar switch - not a sensor .
Anti-Theft- Perimeter Alarm System
The perimeter anti-theft system provides for vehicle security through an audible and visual notification if the vehicle's exterior is invaded without the system being shut off. The system self-arms when the doors, liftgate and hood are closed and the key is OFF. Any open door, hood or liftgate will prevent the system from arming. The hood ajar switch, door ajar switches and liftgate ajar switch cause these circuits to register as normally closed circuits. The vehicle security module monitors the status of the hood ajar, door ajar and liftgate ajar switches. If these circuits indicate an open entry point, the switch opens the circuit to the vehicle security module, which energizes the horn and autolamp relays (causing the horn to sound and the lights to flash). The vehicle security module turns off the anti-theft system when it receives a command through the keyless entry keypad, remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter, or anti-theft alarm inhibit switch.

Hi I have a 2006 Lincoln navigator the air suspension pump will not turn on the vehicle dynamics module is not turning on the pump relay because in the pid data the drivers door says it is ajar when it is...

Hey Jeff, any U- codes stored in any modules ?
U1900 Missing CAN message(s) Door(s) ajar, PRNDL, 4x4, instrument cluster (IC), running boards, vehicle speed REFER to Section 418-00 . U2023 Invalid CAN message(s) Door(s) ajar, PRNDL, 4x4, instrument cluster (IC), running boards, vehicle speed REFER to Section 418-00 .
L4 CHECK THE VDM FOR DOOR AJAR INPUT
  • Key in ON position.
  • Monitor VDM door position status PID.
  • Close all doors, liftgate, liftgate glass and power running boards.
  • While observing the diagnostic tool, open and close one door.
  • Does the door status PID change between CLOSED and AJAR states?
When you open an close the driver door you have no PID change ,right ?
L4 CHECK THE VDM FOR DOOR AJAR INPUT
  • Key in ON position.
  • Monitor VDM door position status PID.
  • Close all doors, liftgate, liftgate glass and power running boards.
  • While observing the diagnostic tool, open and close one door.
  • Does the door status PID change between CLOSED and AJAR states?
The door ajar input is an input to the Vehicle Security Module , then transmitted over the bus ! You'll have to find a diagram for the med. speed CAN data bus .

2008 explorer door locks not locking from door switches

This is not a good thing. Ford uses a computer called the GEM and that means General Electronics Module. It controls:
  • Low Coolant Indicator On Cluster
  • Brake Indicator on Cluster
  • DRL - Control
  • Wipers
  • AutoLamps
  • Rear Defrost
  • Interior Lamps(dome)
  • High Beam Indicator only (cluster)
  • Low Coolant indicator
  • Key-in Buzzer
  • Seatbelt indicator only (Cluster)
  • Trunk Pop Relay
  • Power Locks
  • Door Ajar Sensors
  • Door Keyless entry pad
  • Remote Keyless Entry
  • One Touch Down (power window)
  • Air Bag Tone
  • Anti Theft (perimeter Alarm) (SEL, or SE(s) with mods)
  • Lift gate ajar (wagon)
  • Liftgate Pop
  • Accessory Delay signal (accessory that work after engine off, prior to door ajar)
  • Battery Saver Relay signal (accessory that work after engine off, 15 mins) Map lights, vanity mirrors

They are located behind the radio in the dash and they are $$$ about 600 USD.

The alarm goes off by itself..I am no where near the key

very old post... choices?? i will try to help others fix ALARMS.
Jeep WK. 2005 to 2010
what id do? , is never set it. or defeat it. (ask)( the oper, guide tells this)

but if it MUST work than it must be fixed.
the dealer would use a scan tool , see no errors and replace something exensive, then it fails again. the endless story of alarms.
in your case he'd install the TSB fix first.
He'd use a DRBIII scan tool to find the offending input.
The BCM (body puter ) gets the sensor inputs belowL

The BCM receives the ajar switch signals on the following circuits.
  • Circuit G75 provides left front door ajar switch signal
  • Circuit G74 provides right front door ajar switch signal
  • Circuit G77 provides left rear door ajar switch signal
  • Circuit G76 provides right rear door ajar switch signal
  • Circuit G78 provides liftgate ajar and liftglass ajar signals.
the hardest problems are always intermittants.
Intermittent alarms and stalling engines, tops list.
finding it? , with out sleeping in the car is a big problem.

also there is TSB on this.
Swing gate open alarm.
http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f67/2008-wk-liftgate-open-message-746268/#post13865598

the hard part, is finding out which inputs is (was) failing.
in my car i can find it with a scan tool .
newer cars store the failed input in the PCM memory. as a DTC.

In my shop I have a CAN-BUSS monitoring tool that allows me
to see live AJAR messages and logs them to the laptop, HDD.
for later analysis. (ok the lift gate failed at 3am, bingo)
my 2008 logs, DTCS like this.
B1820-HOOD AJAR INPUT CIRCUIT HIGH (and all others)
i have a scan tool that can see that , called a innova 3160
a $200 tool,
I have 2 ways to find intermittent in my newer jeep

2006; WK?
FSM quotes with comments.
VTSS VERIFICATION TEST - 1A Diagnostic Test
1. Perform VTSS Verification Test
  • Open the driver door and roll down the window.
  • Remove the ignition key (but keep in hand).
  • Lock the doors with RKE transmitter or power door lock switch.
  • Ensure all doors, tailgate, and tailgate flip-up glass are closed.
  • If the VTSS Indicator Lamp flashes rapidly and after approximately 16 seconds changes to a slower flash, the system is operational. However, If the indicator fails to flash as described, there is a problem with the system.
  • comment: gee, attempt to rattle all doors, and see if VTSS sees a failure. all doors, lift gate and hood, (if car has hood switch)
the FSM shows the B1xx and B2xxx codes for alarms.
only a scan tool can do that. mine can,
you can also rent cheap CAN-BUS scan tools, from most good
autostores.
that should cover most alarming issues.
but here is one better for older jeeps.
see matrix table for coverage by body type.

My liftgate ajar warning light comes on after car is started. however liftgate is latched. any ideas?

try rolling down a window or leaving a door open, shut liftgate hard. see if it still shows liftgate ajar. on my explorer the seals in door and windows shut so tightly that it was almost impossible to get the gate closed completely with doors closed and windows up.

if this doesn't help then you might need a new switch on it.

Liftgate ajar light on when liftgate is closed when driving interior light are on. I open and close liftgate, but no such luck liftgate ajar light on and all interior lights when driving

I recently had a similar problem with the "liftgate ajar" light lighting randomly on my 2001 PT Cruiser. It was even occurring AFTER I had disconnected the "ajar sensor" on the liftgate. Finally found that 5 wires were broken, one of them the liftgate ajar sensor wire, in the wire bundle that leaves the top of the liftgate and goes into the chassis. I suspect that those broken wires would randomly trigger. Inline spliced the wires and resealed the bundle. Everything looks good for now, although time will tell.

My passenger's door open indicator is on but the door is closed. Where is the indicator located? 2005 freestar. Thanks

Normal Operation When any door or the liftgate is opened, the ajar switch provides a ground signal to the smart junction box (SJB). When the door or liftgate is closed, the ajar switch opens, removing the ground signal. The SJB uses the multiple inputs from the ajar switches to determine whether the doors or the liftgate are in the open or closed position. The SJB then provides a message to the instrument cluster over the communication network. The message center uses this information to display the door/liftgate ajar message.

I suspect your door switch is not closing all the way.

There are 2 switchs one each for the left and right liftgate latch, u must detrim the liftgate to replace them, they stick and cause your problem, replace the courtesy light switches on both latches.
