2001 Hyundai Santa Fe check engine light and transmision troubles

I have a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe (6 cylinder AWD w/automatic trans) that was just involved with a right front end collision. After picking up vehicle the car jolted on the highway and the check engine light came on. After turning off vehicle 3 times the light went out. The following day the vehicle stayed in first gear for a few moments before shifting and the check engine light came on. While on the highway the rpm’s increased with no increase in speed. After 5 more times of starting and turning off the check engine light went off.
