After 2000 very few cars were made with distributors. The spark timing is picked up by a crank angle sensor, pulses are sent to the on board computer which in turn fires the relevant ignition coils.
If you are looking for spark problems, start with the crank angle sensor which is mounted on the bell housing to pick up the signals from the flywheel - these are the most likely problem points.
To replace crank angle sensor .
1.you will need to remove drive belt
2.remove harmonic balancer to get to crank angle sensor
3.remove crank angle sensor
then do these steps in reverse to reassembly
If you have the type of crank angle sensor shown in the image, then it will be located on the bell-housing towards the top of the bell-housing and usually on the drivers side. Dis-connect the faulty crank angle sensor and then un-bolt the two bolts that secure the crank angle sensor to the bell-housing and then remove the sensor. The best access to the crank angle sensor is from under the vehicle.
