The dead battery is most likely why the vehicle isn't unlocking. No power to the motors that work the door release. Does the key turn at all in the key slot? Most people only use the remote for locking so the mechanical part of the key slot gums up and stops working with lack of use. Try spraying inside the key slot with a releasing oil like WD40, leave it to soak in and try turning the key again. you might need to do this a few times.
Does the trunk have a key slot? Try that as well then you can simply climb over into the front of the van.
put your ear to the door and try to open it with the remote, if you hear it trying to open, then most likely you door lock actuator is bad and needs replacement. It may have disconnected itself from the door lock lever as well, but i suggest opening up the door panel to better ***** the situation. It all points to the actuator.
does your vehicle have an owners manual in it?? sometimes you hafta re-program the remote, to function correctly with the vehicle, and the owners manual will tell you what you need to do.
pull the broken cable down from under the dash, cut back the cable sheath to expose the wire cable inside, then use a good pair of vise grips to pull the stub of the broken steel cable to open the hood.
drive away from your house and find a place to park. Take your garage door opener and hold it up by the openers on you van . Press the button that you want to operate you garage door and the original opener at the same time it should flash 2 or three times . Now you should be able to use the one that came with the car. (note: it will depend on the age of you garage door opener)
you probably have a garage door opener that changes the code after each opening. I had to push a button on the door motor and then run to the car and push the opener button within 15 seconds. Your car salespwrson is usually an expert at this.
For the sliding doors you need to clean the contacts, there are 6 or 8 on both sides, just wipe them clean as they are probably covered in oil/grease/grime.
