How do I open hood on a 2005 montana when hood cabnle is broken

Heidi, No electric release. The latch is probably stuck. While you pull the interior hood release have an assistant push down and pull up repeatably/vigorously until hood releases from stuck position. Lube latch and cable before closing hood. Take a pair of pliers, and pull the cable where handle hooked to it. Helps to have some one push down on hood while you pull cable.

cable could be frozen? stuck ,broken , the hood could be jammed, have someone try to lift hood while you pull hood release.

try taking the wheel liner out on the side of the stuck latch and access the latch directly you can open it by hand if u follow the cable to lever. if you cannot access from wheel ull have to go from under the bumper as a last resort ull have to unbolt the latch while connected which can be tricky

If you mean the hood will not lock down in a closed position the following applies.
It can be due to a stuck hood release cable or latch pivot that is out of sequence. With the cable problem, the cable remains pulled back in an OPEN position and the latch pivot will remain in an unlock position under the hood. For the latch pivot, the pivot has a V notch and is suppose to lay in an open position in order for the hood striker to trip it into a locked position. You may not be lined up, basically the pivot is flipped into a closed position and the striker hits its' top instead of its' V slot.

Rust or a broken pivot return spring can be the causes for this defect.

If you mean the hood will not move down from an open position, then that is a different problem. The small lift cylinders on each side of the hood may be jammed. Or the hood hinge could be defective. Be careful, some hoods are made of aluminum and bend easily if forced.

Is the cable broke? If not, try having someone push up and down on the hood (Gently) while you pull the hood release. If it does open, get out the WD-40 and lube the latch and cable.
If not or the cable is broken, you might try "fishing" a coat hangar wire with a loop in one end between the grill and radiator to hook the hood release latch where the cable attaches. Pull the wire and it MAY open. Good Luck... ....

Open the hood. If you cannot gain access, the grill of the vehical will have to be removed. This will give you access to the bulb.

your gonna have to go from under car with long screw driver and push release arm or try to go from grill,garb any part of cable and pull. good luck.

This is the hard case for any hood broke the cable, if the broken part is under neith your dash board, near the handle, probably you can manage to pull the broke cable and try to open it. but if the broken part in the front hood, probably you have to take to the garage to fix it.

I had two cases like this when I had my Union 76 Services Station in N. Hollywood 80s, it is a headache problem.
