Hello Ron, If your car does not crank when you turn the key, it sounds as if you have problems with the ignition switch . Or the actuating rod is disconnected.
The steering wheel was turned when the key was removed. So when you try to turn on the key, turn the wheel one way and the other way to release the pressure on the key. The key should turn ok.
Hope this helps.
The steering wheel is under pressure from turning the steering when stopped. Turn the steering wheel slightly so the pressure is released from the ignition lock and you will able to then turn the ignition key to unlock the steering wheel.
it has tab on the shift consel pop it out put screw driver down hole it should release it. or another is to turn key from unlock position just a little bit just enough so there is no power going to ignition put in nuetral then start car. you either have a shift lock problem or blown fuse or stop light out.
you may want to hear this, but you may need to call a locksmith, for example:i broke my key off in my 94 Bronco at my work and needed to drive home,i had tools, but without the key you can not turn the switch to ACC in order to push the release button on the bottom of the switch(done with a paper clip),so i had to hammer on the switch until it was broken enough to turn it,the risk is damage to the column where the switch wont stay in place or will not function properly. Then a new steering column will have to be installed, fortunately i didnt damage my column.A locksmith is usually about $100.00,its sad because it only takes them about 2 minutes to remove the switch.
