I have a 1992 Ford Ranger XLT, 101 thousand miles. Just had the alternator, fan belt, belt tensioner, and power steering lines. I was pulling into a parking lot today when I heard a clicking or tapping sound. This increased with acceleration. Drove home, about 2 miles, and as soon as I got out of the truck, I noticed a bad smell at the front of the truck.

For the misfire I would check to see if any of the plug wires got pulled loose at the plug and at the distributor. As to the file miles per quart guzzle of p/s fluid look for a cracked line or bad seal in the steering box.
Check the belt tension, you should not be able to move it more than about a half inch, should be able to twist it but not all the way over... If it is tight, is it cracked underneath where it rides against the pulley? If not and it is in good shape, you have other issues like a bad alternator, bad tension pulley, bad water pump, bad power steering pump, bad A/C unit... I would start by taking the belt off and pushing, pulling and rotating all of these items by hand to see if you find any issues.. Generally, if it is the water pump, you will see seepage coming from it but not always. It is pretty rare that it would be the power steering pump because you should feel that in your steering but it is possible that you would not, your alternator should have some movement if bad but it is possible that it doesnt-this can be checked at Advanced Auto for free.. Remove it and take it to them.

good practice would required the replacement of all belts if one broke
all u have to do is take the belt loose look at the tensioner and just see if it has a bolt or whole on the bottom of it when u pull on it will pull over then u slide the belt off then take the bolt out thats above that one and tensioner will come over just revere to install new tensioner be sure to have the alighnment notch on the back of the tensioner in the right whole
In the front of the hood latch ( to the left and right of the unit) there are two mounting screws that actually hold the hood latch piece together. If those screws are loosened the latch can be moved left and right. Align the latch piece to the hood to make sure the hood catches.As long as the latch itself will work by pushing it down this works and it also helps with tight tension issue on the pull chord from inside of the cab.
This is a difficult problem for an English-speaking person (me) - but I will guess at what you are saying is wrong with your Ranger......
You have a loose fan belt.
I believe that the belt is Surpentine - and, therefor has a belt tensioner. A loose belt normally exists if the tensioner spring is weak. Other possibility is that the belt has stretched beyond the ability of the tensioner to keep it tight.
Either replace the belt (about 30 dollars, US) or replace the tensioner. (Your 2002 probably has enough miles on it to justify replacing the belt anyway!!)
first go to an auto partstore and have the code checked. most do it for free. could be coil, fuel pump, fuel filter, air filter or even a bad gas cap. but the dianogstic test should pin point the problem.
YOU HAVE SOMETHING OUT OF LINE ONE OF THE PULLYS IS NOT LINED UP RIGHT. ITS MOST LIKELY ALTERNAER POWER STEERING PUMP OR THE AIR PUMP ONE OF THE THREE ARE OUT OF LINE
You should have bolts that go across the front of you shroud and a couple of them down by the fan. To take the fan off you need to pull off the belts so it is free and then you will have more bolts on the front of the fan.
