The Chevy V6 is compatible with essentially every transmission, manual or automatic, as the Small Block V8.
Note that the 4.3 V6 is typically found with a 168 tooth flywheel (11" clutch disc) behind it instead of the more-common 153 tooth (10.5" clutch disc). This is done for clutch engagement, but moreso for the weight and resulting torque provided. Therefore, the V6 requires the "big clutch" bellhousing which gives the clearance needed for the larger flywheel. The V6 has the same crank flange as the V8's, so caution should be taken when swapping flywheels around from the V8 to the V6.
If its a THM400 the valve should be in the side just above the pan. It would have a vac hose going to it. If its not a 400 it probably does not use a modulator valve but rather a solenoid inside the transmission.
If I'm not mistaken, there should be a module or relay. Not for sure where it's at. Heard of these going out and not being able to switch into 4 wheel drive. I know on a 200'? Ford F-250 they have a motor on the side of the transfer case. That switches it into 4 wheel. Signal from 4x4 switch is sent to module then to the motor that engages the transfer case. should hold roughly 8 quarts with the converter still full. Run the trans through the gears to get it warm, then check the dipstick while running. I would bet its still low.
you may be confusing the torque converter clutch engagement with o.d. this trans has a problem with the T.C.C. regulator valve wearing out the valve body bore. this will cause the converter clutch to engage only sometimes or not at all. this will set a P1870 code in the control module. when this code is stored in the controller, ( check engine light may or may not be on), it increases the pressure in the transmission causing the 1-2 shift to be harsh. ask a local tranny shop to scan the vehicle ( most will do this for free) if this is the problem they can either fix your valve body (sonnax parts) or replace it with an upgraded valve body. hope this helps
The filter is inside the trans. It is not under maintenance schedule unless the transmission has undergone a major malfunction and needs to be replaced during overhaul. This is done at the factory. The only maintenance schedule is fluid replacement/flush every 30,000 miles.
On the back right side of the tranny you will find the modulator valve with a vaccum line. First check the the line is ok, if so, replace the valve. Note; there is an adjusting screw inside the vaccum hose fitting to change the shift modes. Don't mess with it unless necessary! Frankster016
