I have an 07 Chevy Impala LS and I am trying to bypass the air compressor with a shorter serpentine belt. Has anyone else tried this and know the size of the shorter serpentine belt that they used?

SOURCE: !991 Olds 88...can I replace with a shorter serpentine belt?

Unplug wires going to the compressor, and let it freewheel, if it's not noisy in that mode. A/C compressor won't kick in if not connected. A lot less hassle than going the other way.

Good news...if you've got the 4 cylinder model, O'Reilly Auto Parts has a belt made by Gates Model #K060806. If you have the 6 cylinder model, it's Gates Model #K060623. I'm guessing you tried AutoZone first...I hate AZ for this reason alone. Anyways, hope this proves useful. Have a great night!

SOURCE: By-passing the a/c compressor with a shorter belt

The best way to do this is first ask the parts house to see if this car came with out air and get a belt that way. I dont think that year had the option of not havnig A/C. The other way is take a piece of rope and put it around the pullys just like you are puttin on the belt but by pass the A/C you might have to make a few trips or get a few different size belts but its the only way

I doubt anyone knows that off the top of their head. You could run a string through the path you want the belt to take and measure how much string it takes. This will give you an approximate length for the belt -- most parts stores could find one close to that size.

2005 Dodge Durango 4.7 magnum bypass serpentine belt

the ac is an idler pulley in the system so leaving it out will require a total change of how the belt is fitted and not just needing a shorter belt
remember that the ac pulley bearing can be replaced if faulty and if the ac compressor has failed disconnect the ac clutch wire and there is no need to worry about belts

Is there a way to bypass the ac compressor when it locks up for a 04 Chevrolet Malibu classic with a 2.2 engine

I don't know if that vehicle with that engine fitted was sold without air conditioning.

If there was a no aircon version for that engine then you should be able to fit a serpentine belt which has been designed to fit the pulleys on that engine with no aircon compressor. This would work as long as the aircon pulley was well clear of the new belt when fitted.

If you go into the local chev parts dealer they can look up the belt routing diagrams of that engine with and without the aircon and it should be clear from that if you can just fit the shorter belt to your engine and by pass the aircon pulley. They will verify for you that it will fit and supply you with the correct belt. Pretty basic I think.

What size serpentine belt to bypass ac compressor?

as there are engine running that have no ac fitted there will be belts to fit your car. Go to an auto parts shop that has a good selection of belts and they will have a catalogue with your belt listed.

What size belt do I need to bypass Mercury Sable AC Compressor

I had to do the same thing on my Toyota Avalon. I used a flexible cloth measuring tape to measure around the pulleys (minus the A/C, of course). I had to cut the pulley off the Avalon A/C compressor because of interference issues. You may or may not have to do the same.

Bypass ac compressor with shorter serpentine belt 2001-02 Mercury Sable LS

Because in most cases the routing will not work without the pulley for the compressor being in use. That's why some engines have a dummy pulley available to use in place of the compressor.
Not using the compressor pulley can cause the belt to drive a pulley the wrong direction, or not have the grooved side of the belt on a pulley.

Need to replace serpentine belt without ac on a 2007 chev impala ac compressor bad need to bypass. can this be done

As far as I know there is no idler by-pass pulley for that car available yet..So,no.
However the compressor may be ok. If the A.C. is off the compressor doesn't spin, the only
moving part is the pulley on the end, and it's bearing. I suspect it is that outer bearing that is bad,
not the whole compressor.
A good shop can pull that bearing and install a new one (A GOOD shop could do it
in the car and not even loose the freon!)
Hope this sheds some light.
