What controls the ac cooling fans on a 2002 Kia Sedona? the cooling fans only run when the ac is on. changed relays in fuse box, no change. changed the thermostat and coolant temp sensor. nothing.

Testing the cooling fan electrical circuit would be the place to start ! At the relay or where it plugs into in the fuse relay box > If you look on the bottom of the relay you will or should see four sets of numbers 30,87 & 85,86 . Take a jumper wire an jump pins 30 & 87 . The fan should run . Check for B+ power at those two pins , one should have B+ voltage ! The other goes to power the fan ! Do you have a expansion bottle if so when running does water flow into. It usually a small pipe ontop are all pipes getting hot is there oily drops in expansion bottle or radiator? Is there creamy gunk in oil filler cap? Does interior heater get hot? Did you check fuse and also what was the reason for changing fan?

you might want to change or at least inspect the thermostat. you can also try jumping the fans to see if they are working. You also have 2 relays under the hood that control your rad fan speeds you can check them to see if they are working. This would be a good place to start without throwing a lot of parts at it.

your AC cooling fan is not working properly, most vehicle has two fans, one for the radiator and another for AC, both work in sync with one another; if one cooling fan only working it does not produce enough cooling for both radiator and condenser at the same time; by running ac you producing more heat and its cant cool the engine fast enough with one fan so your engine is overheating when running AC. The temperature sensor could be faulty and need to be replace or your fan motor can also be faulty. Check the fuse first and the relay make sure they are not burn out. sensor cost about 30 bucks get it new, relay 35-40 new used 5 bucks at junk yard, fan get it from a junk yard for 25-30 bucks, new will run over 100 bucks. don't run the air and overheat your motor, it can damage your engine or may blow your radiator. if you do run ac watch the temp very closely, don't let temperature get into the red.

is the fan running

They are all in the fuse box under the hood the relays dont work in a way where one controls one fan and one controls another fan they run the fans in series for low speed and paralel for high speed. They are numbered 37,39,40 you would have to replace them all to see if that takes care of your problem
