Or how do i know if its the relay fuse, the solenoid, or the starter? Because i can still pop-clutch it to start and it does that fine.

SOURCE: ford ranger truck overheating

I have had this happen with my ranger. Changed everything I could to try to fix the over heating. It turned out that I had a small leak in my head gasket and it was allowing exsaust gas to go into the cooling system witch was over pressurizing it. Also the air from the exsaust will heat up much faster than liquid making your thermostat to read hot and will not be able to blow hot air in the cab because there is no liquid going to the heater core. This happened to me when my blet came off and I tryed to make it home. If you had it over heat for a long peirod of time it may have ripped the head gasket.

SOURCE: how to adjust emergency brake on 1999 ford ranger?

First pull the plug in the braka adjusting tool and make sure you still have enought shoe left to adjust then follow the cable from the rear brakes to the Y that connets the to brake cables then get a wire brush and brush off the threded end of the Y spray with WD 40 and then unlock the locking nut using two wrenches to hold one nut while removing the other then adjust the single end of the Y nut towards the joining part of the Y adjust it till cable is fairly snug jack up the rig so the wheels are off the ground and make sure the wheels still turn freely. are you sure that the auto ajusters are working? if you see the brake lining is less than 1/16 of an inch the thickness of a dime then replace the brake shoes first. If you need more information let me know and if you adjust the cable and need to replace the shoes later you will have to back off the nut to get the shoes on. thanks for using Fixya and if this was helpful please rate.

SOURCE: Wiring Diagram for 1999 Ford Ranger 3.0

if u can gain access to the ignition switch wiring use a testlight and probe each wire while turning the ignition at start position.one of these wires shld have power during starting position and release it again to confirm.this wire goes directly to the trasmission multi lever position swicht (mlp).this MLP is mounted just outside the transmission shifting lever ganged together.Trace the corresponding return wire using the testlight. You may need someone to help you do the job.The return wire usually go to a relay on your fuse box on the engine compartment. Then from relay to the starter.

A 4l60e transmission how do I no if i have a bad 3-2 downshift sol on a 1994 chevy Pick up

Albert, Have truck scanned for trouble codes. To test a transmission solenoid, use hand held ohm meter. Instructions in second link below, the attached links are informative on the different procedures used to test solenoids.

Diesel 6 0l

Every diesel has an electric solenoid that shuts the fuel off when you turn the key off. I suspect that is your problem but I don't know where it is exactly on a Ford. It should be mounted on or near the injector pump.

Vw super beetle won't start after sitting for a few days. After I arc the solenoid, it will work.

If you put battery voltage to the starter solenoid &
it works & the starter works, then the solenoid control
circuit has issues

Fuse,ignition switch,neutral safety switch,clutch sw
& such, depending on what the car has

You could try switching relays but doubt that is an issue

Bmw 525i wont start no starter action battery ok

rarely fail, but do.if the battery load tested out to be good . you get 12 volts to the starter signal wire when you turn the key to start. then the starter is bad or the engine or something driven by the belt is locked up.

I hear a click clack sound under hood on right side by solenoid switch when turn ignition

It can be several things. First, try unhooking and cleaning the Battery terminals and the Battery cables. Then reattach them and try starting your car.

If that does not work you need to test the Solenoid. Unhook the small wires on top of the Solenoid. Then take a Battery jumper cable and attach one end to the Battery cable nut on the Battery side of the Solenoid. Take the other end and touch the Terminal nut on the Starter side of the Solenoid. The Starter should spin. It will arc a little, but the engine should be cranking using the jumper cable to supply power. Remove the jumper and reattach the small wires.

Now you can diagnose the problem. Primarily you need a good Battery, if you could bypass the Solenoid and get the engine to spin at normal speed-the Solenoid is bad. If the Jumper cable really arcs and the Starter refuses to turn, the Starter is bad. If the engine slowly cranks with the jumper cable, the Battery is weak or bad or the Starter is dragging.

The click-clack noise you hear are the contacts inside the Solenoid. The Solenoid is the weakest connection between the Battery and the Starter. If either the Battery or the Starter is bad the Solenoid will make the sound. It does not mean the Solenoid is bad. The test I wrote about will verify if the Solenoid is bad when you bypass the Solenoid. You go on to testing the Battery and Starter with the methods I presented. It is really more simple to do than to write about.

89 cherokee... will not turn over.. the battery has 12.67v so i checked the volage at the starter while trying to start it and got 12.34 so i think that it would be the starter but had it checked out and...

YOu have a voltage at the the starter while trying to start but it not turn over, then there is not enough current to turn the starter. When your solenoid is engaged it make a contact therefore you have a positive voltage at the starter. However the contact inside the solenoid is corroded or carbonized with arcing as it aged, hence limited current could flow preventing a start. Replace the solenoid after checking your battery in good condition will take care of your problem.

!997 Toyota Tercel runs good if push started, but cannot get vehicle to start with key. suspect electrical

There are 2 possible reason for this:
1- The battery is weak. Solution:s Need to charge it fully.
2- The starter solenoid get corroded due to arcing after a period of time causing high resistance, so current can't follow enough to feed the starter. Solution: Replace the solenoid. Here how it looks:
