For strange error messages like that you need an auto-electrician with a pro grade scan tool computer to find out which is the modules and sensors has failed and is reporting wrongly. A standard code reader isn't bi-directional and can't do this. If the vehicle is driving fine, you can just ignore it.
no B+ at any of these fuse's check Ignition 1 relay .
This vehicle is equipped with the Bosch 5.3 antilock braking system.
The vehicle is equipped with the following braking systems:
?€¢
Antilock Brake System (ABS)
?€¢
Dynamic Rear Proportioning (DRP)
?€¢
Traction Control System TC2 (w/NW9)
The following components are involved in the operation of the above systems:
?€¢
Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) - The EBCM controls the system functions and detects failures.
The EBCM contains the following components:
-
System Relay - The system relay is energized when the ignition is ON and no ABS DTCs are present. It supplies battery positive voltage to the solenoid valves and pump motor.
-
Vent Tube - The vent tube, located in the EBCM connector, is an opening to the internal cavity of the EBCM. It allows ventilation of the EBCM internals.
?€¢
Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) - The BPMV contains the hydraulic valves and pump motor that are controlled electrically by the EBCM. The vehicle is equipped with traction control The BPMV uses a 4 circuit configuration with a front/rear split. The BPMV directs fluid from the reservoir of the master cylinder to the front wheels and fluid from the other reservoir to the rear wheels. The circuits are hydraulically isolated so that a leak or malfunction in one circuit will allow continued braking ability on the other.
The traction control and transmission shifting would involve the body computer more so than the engine computer. Have you had the body computer scanned for trouble codes ?
it could be a bad relay or a blown fuse. check the abs and traction control fuses. There is no way to test a relay but you can replace the abs relay just to be sure. the abs and traction control should share the same relay but you may want to double check. All the fuse and relay locations can be found in your owners manual
you need to check the traction control module located in the engine compartment, its malfunction, high voltage may have damage same. again check all relays and fuse.
that is what it is desgined to do - reduce acceleration and apply the brakes intermittently when the wheels spin. You have a switch you cn push to disable it. You need to disable each time you start car. See owner manual.
06-10: Traction Control
1996 Contour, Mystique Workshop Manual
DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
Traction Control System
The optional traction control system is designed to control wheel spin when accelerating on slippery or loose surfaces. Traction control system is available only with anti-lock brakes.
The traction control system includes the following components:
Hydraulic control unit.
Throttle control actuator (9N825).
Traction control switch.
Traction control warning indicator.
Front brake anti-lock sensor (2C204).
Rear brake anti-lock sensor (2C190).
The traction control system operates as follows:
System functions by transferring torque from the spinning wheel to the wheel with the most traction.
This is achieved by applying the brake at the spinning wheel through the hydraulic control unit or reducing the throttle opening.
Traction control braking and throttle control occur at vehicle speeds up to 50 km/h (30 mph).
At vehicle speeds above 50 km/h (30 mph), only throttle limiting control is used.
If speed control is operating when traction control system engages the traction control system will disengage speed control through the use of a speed control relay. This action is the same as applying the brake pedal with speed control engaged.

Traction Control Switch
The traction control switch is located on the instrument panel, left of the steering column.
