did you replace low pressure pump in tank, There is actually a low pressure pump in each tank and a high pressure pump inside the drivers side frame rail about right under where the driver sits.
There are several things that I would check, Richard. The most obvious is a fuel line leak from the rear tank. Another possibility is a kinked neoprene hose near the tank's fuel pump. It the rear tank has not been used for a while the tank may have some water in it. Try a bottle or two of water remover (isopropyl alcohol). If none of those things are found, then you should get a fuel pump pressure test.
BLOCKED LINE. OR ITS NOT SWITCH OVER LIKE YOU THINK IT IS.. ALSO VAPOR LOCK ALSO.. MORE THAN LIKELY THE SWITCH IS NOT SWITCH THE PUMP OVER.. MAKE SURE THEIR IS POWER GOING TO THE SWITCH PUMP UNDERNEATH. VOLT METER.. OR A SIMPLE TEST LIGHT.. HAVE SOMEONE SWITCH IT WHILE DOWN UNDER NEATH CHECK THE PWR. ON THE GOOD SIDE AND THEN TRY TO OTHER SIDE AND SEE IF PWR IS THERI...
you may have a bad fuel pump or a bad injection pump, here are picture of the two, as far as the gauge you may have a bad fuel sending unit, this is in the tank and work like a toilet float and sends a signal to the gauge, the injection pump and fuel pump are located on top of motor you would need to have the preasure checked on both before just replace them hope this is helpful.
Your symptoms sound like a fuel pump, not the filter. The gas gauge is controlled by a sending unit that is mounted on the pump in the tank. If the gauge is sometimes not working, chances are, neither is the pump, which would cause the car not to start. The pump not only provides fuel, but also pressurizes the fuel system for the injectors and throttle body. The fuel filter would cause poor mileage and hesitation when accelerating. A completely blocked filter would cause the car not to run, but your gas gauge would still work since it's reading the level of fuel in the tank, not whether it's coming through the line to the engine.
first, is this a diesel? if it is there is a line or oring loose allowing it to **** air--diesels dont like leaks like that and there is a whole procedure for voiding the air from the lines on diesels. next could be the in tank pump and also does it have duel tanks? does the duel tank switch work? running out of fuel with in tank pumps can burn up the pump (the fuel itself provides lubrication and cooling for the pump, gas or diesel) and of course check the filter, running out and refilling could have disturbed trash in the tank
