What would cause popping when I turn it off?

When I left work, I heard rattling. stopped to get gas about a block away. when I turned it back on rattling had stopped. drove home and when I shut the car off, heard a loud pop that sounded like it might be coming from the front. drove to work this morning, but it didn't pop when I turned it off today. belts look fine.

the car was not coasting. also, all the belts look pretty new. if i could afford to go to a real mechanic, i wouldn't be writing here. however, thank you for your suggestion and i will have someone check out the belts. i appreciate it.

A shredding fan belt?
why not get the car checked out.??? buy a SHOP
you shut the engine off, and when you do, that it coasts to a stop
and did the noise come from the engine bay? and did the noise happen as engine was coasting to its natural stall or after that?
noises that happen, not moving are easy to find. so
get a competent mech, to find it. it be easy for them.

Testimonial: "the car was not coasting or moving in any way. it was in my driveway. as i mentioned in the above post, the belts look fine. they were replaced not that long ago. if i could afford a real mechanic, i would not be asking here. however, i appreciate your response. thank you."

sounds like you need a mechanic, to me. one that can use their stereo scopic ears to find LOCATION, location is EVERY THing, why not open the hood and listen as person 2 stops engine, or answer my question about when.> (as motor stops or after RPM is over. and now one more, does the engine shake hard. radical movments.? and one more, what engine so you have, we can not guess that. and guess what. that COUNTS. tjere are 3 engines, 1.5 L Alpha I4 (petrol) 1.6 L Alpha I4 (petrol) 1.5 L U-Line I3 (diesel) some have cam belts that when ignore , make noise.

I guess you need service, after all guessing might invite engine destruction. (some engines are not free running) Learn that first

ok i didnt ask that, I asked, did the the noise, happen and engine spool down(key off) or after the engine 100% stopped. Btw there are many jobs that no DIY can do. The engine cuts fuel at key off and spark the engine then spools (not the car) down. at what point does is happen and is it in the engine bay ,(open hood for better sounds) and which engine if the engine makes ,noise we cannot here it here, nor can we SEE it , Find a friend that has DIY skills ask them to help find true location of noise, if for what ever reason you cant. What transmission, auto or stick?

any machine that make noise, can in fact be dangerous to you, or to IT. noises are the early warnings on all machines on earth. find the location first. its not hard. not moving noise are the most easy.

I believe the alternator belt has broken or the alternator it's self has quit working. Open the hood and see if any of the pulleys are missing the belt.

PROCEDURE:
1. For first time training, press and hold the two outer HomeLink buttons, releasing
only when the HomeLink indicator light begins to flash after 20 seconds.
NOTE: Do not perform this step when training the additional HomeLink buttons.
2. Position the hand-held transmitter 1-3 inches away from the HomeLink mirror,
keeping the HomeLink indicator light in view.
3. Using both hands, simultaneously press and hold both the desired HomeLink button
and the hand held transmitter button.
DO NOT release until the HomeLink indicator light flashes slowly and then rapidly.
When the indicator light flashes rapidly, both buttons may be released. The rapid
flashing indicates successful training and the procedure is complete. This also
indicates that the garage door opener does not use rolling code technology.
Note: The garage door may open or close during this step.
Steps 4 through 7 are only necessary if the HomeLink button appears to be
transmitting after step 3, but the garage door does not operate.
4. Press and hold the trained HomeLink button and observe the indicator light.
If the indicator light is solid/continuous, training is complete and your device should
activate when the HomeLink button is pressed and released.
If the indicator light blinks rapidly for 2 seconds and then turns a solid/continuous light,
proceed with the following training instructions for a rolling code device. A second
person may make the following steps quicker and easier. It is recommended that a
ladder or similar device be used to obtain access to the motor housing. Do not stand
on the vehicle to perform the next steps.
5. At the garage door opener receiver (motor housing) in the garage, locate the “learn”
or “smart” button (usually near the hanging antenna wire attached to the unit). If
there is difficulty locating the training button, refer to the garage door opener’s
manual.
6. Press and release the “learn” or “smart” button (the name and color of the button
may vary by manufacturer).
NOTE: Once the button is pressed, there are 30 seconds in which to initiate the
next step.

7. Return to the vehicle and firmly press and hold the trained HomeLink button for two
seconds and release. Repeat the “press/hold/release” sequence up to 3 times to
complete the training process. If successful, your garage door should open or close
during this step.
If the vehicle owner continues to have difficulty programming their HomeLink mirror,
please have them contact HomeLink customer service directly at 1-800-355-3515 or
www.homelink.com for further assistance.

Why won't my car start? It turns over but acts like it's not getting any gas. The A/C was just fixed 5 min prior to this incident.

I would suggest getting in contact with the shop that worked on the A/C. I think I actually would have gotten ahold of them when I heard a rattle.

Front end rattle that goes away when brakes applied

the squeaking sounds like a wheel bearing going bad. And the pulling to one side is cause by unequal braking pressure caused by plugged rubber brake hose, bad calipers or wheel cylinders. Check the bearings by lifting the car with a jack, block the wheels, and use a jack stand for safety. now wiggle the tire around. If it has any play, the bearing is bad. Replace it. I would replace your brakes as well. Good luck

2000 dodge durango, a/c compressor stopped working after freon was added, did I do something wrong?

at a rough guess you add excessive amounts of freon and that caused the compressor to seize up
gas is added using pressure gauges and not by the can
besides that did you use the correct gas as the r134a runs at a much higher pressure and will deliver liquid back to the compressor which is not good for the operation
