Could be air in the system. No need to bleed it - ensure the reservoir is full, then turn the steering wheel from lock to lock a couple of times and it will self-bleed. If the noise persists, maybe it is not the steering causing it - maybe like the fan assembly or water pump.

SOURCE: Low Fuel Pressure on Landrover Freelander TD4

From 53 reg onwards, diesel pump is under R.H. rear wheel arch, hidden by the plastic wheel arch liner. Older versions have combined fuel pump/sender in the tank (under R.H part of rear seat).
You should be able to hear a faint purr from the pump when ignition is turned on but engine not yet running.

  • xus LS 400 and locate the power steering pump pulley, fluid reservoir and pump on the upper front driver side of the engine.
  • 2 Connect the pulley remove tool to the front of the power steering pulley. Brace the arms on the pulley tool on the **** of the pulley. Connect the metal key in the middle of the pulley tool to the nut in the middle of the pulley. Connect the power drill to the pulley tool and pull the trigger to remove the pulley securing nut. Remove the drive belt and the pulley.

  • 4 Remove the securing bolts from the right and left side of the reservoir and the pump using the metric ratchet set. Pull the pump upward and disconnect the hose from the bottom of the pump using the wrench. Pull the pump from the engine compartment.
  • 5 Lower the new power steering pump into the engine compartment. Reconnect the hose to the bottom of the power steering pump. Position the new power steering pump onto the engine. Replace the securing bolts the right and left side of the pump and reservoir. Tighten the bolts using the metric ratchet set.

How do i flush my power steering in my 2003 mercury mountaineer

You need to raise the vehicle so that the front tires are off the ground and place on jackstands. Make sure the power steering reservoir is full. With the engine off (not running) turn the steering wheel from stop to stop 2 or 3 times. Recheck the fluid level and add if necessary. Lower the vehicle to the ground. Start the engine and slowly turn from stop to stop 2 or 3 times. Recheck fluid level. If no groaning noise is heard when the engine is running or the steering wheel is turned, and no foam is observed in the reservoir when engine is stopped, then bleeding is complete.

Nissan xterra 2003 car noisy problem

If it's the water pump there should be water leaking, if it's the steering pump the noise  would change as you turn the steering wheel left to right. If it's constant, it could be just old belt and bad idler and tension pully. Start buy praying a little water to the belt while the engine is running and if the noise goes away, the belt is in time to be chaged. If the noise is still there, then most likly it's the ilder bering or tension bearing. Good luck

    Removing power steering pump

To replace the power steering pump, proceed as follows:
    1. Disconnect the power steering return hose from the remote reservoir or pump. Allow the fluid to drain from this hose into a drain pan. Discard the used fluid.
    2. Loosen the bracket or belt tension adjusting bolt, and the pump mounting bolt.
    3. Loosen the belt tension until the belt can be removed. On some cars, it is necessary to lift the vehicle on a hoist and gain access to the power steering pump from underneath the vehicle.
    4. Remove the hoses from the pump, and cap the pump fittings and hoses.
    5. Remove the belt tension adjusting bolt and the mounting bolt, and remove the pump.
    6. Check the pump mounting bolts and bolt holes for wear. Worn bolts must be replaced. If the bolt mounting holes in the pump are worn, pump replacement is necessary.
    7. Reverse steps 1 through 5 to install the power steering pump. Tighten the belt as described previously, and tighten the pump mounting and bracket bolts to the manufacturer's specifications. If o-rings are used on the pressure hose, replace the o-rings. Be sure the hoses are not contacting the exhaust manifold, catalytic converter, or exhaust pipe during or after pump replacement.
    8. Fill the pump reservoir with the manufacturer's recommended power steering fluid, and bleed air from the power steering system as described earlier.
