Ignition system

Ok I'm betting on its not the cpu. I would start with the oil sending unit below the distributor . This has to be working to tell the cpu to let go of spark and fuel. Good luck.

SOURCE: 1998 Cevy tahoe won't start

I had a similar problem and took my 98 Tahoe to several shops before it was fixed. The fix only came as a result of my own research and persistence in trying to solve the problem. After the engine starts and runs for a short time, try turning the engine off and then restarting it after about 10-15 seconds. See if it starts up with no problem. If so, let it run for a short time, and turn it off again. This time, let it rest for about 10-15 minutes before trying to restart it. If the problem is present, and hard starting is obvious, have the fuel pressure regulator valve checked, as well as the fuel pump. The regulator valve looks like a 15 cent part in a plastic bag, but is a real headache to change. I am not a mechanic, but I was told by my mechanic that it sits down behind the carburetor and everything on the top of the engine has to come apart to get to it. It seems that if the valve goes bad, the fuel that remains in the fuel line, which is ready to feed the injectors, trickles back into the tank, and the head pressure is lost. The hard start is caused since you have to prime the system all over again after the car has sat idle for a awhile. The fuel pump may be fine, but in my case, it also was not helping to maintain the fuel in the line, and it completed the failure cycle by allowing the fuel to drain back into the tank. Either you or your mechanic may be able to make a few tests for this problem. It drove me up a wall for about six months until I finally forced the issue, and proved my point to my mechanic. Good luck

My 1995 Chevrolet k 1500 4x4 will no start until fuel is dumped into tbi then it will stay running like nothing is wrong. I checked all fuses and relays. Checked voltage at pump and fuel pressure wich is...

Check the fuel pressure with the engine switched off, should drop a few psi then hold. If not replace the non return valve or fuel pump if the valve is in the pump.

Feels like miss firing at higher speeds

Your caption says misfires at high, then you say low? You have a 95. Lots of miles I assume. So there are several things that would cause misfires at high and low. First is timing chain/belt, sloppy. Second, would be the valves and rings. Valves worn or bent, not seating right. rings just worn out, not holding compression. Do a compression test and see. Low speed or idle misfires can be from vacuum leaks. check hoses. Low and high rpm misfires can be from ignition problems. Wiring, coil/s, ignition modules.

1997 chevy tahoe would the ingnition have any thing to do with the truck not firing

Well the ignition system could, and I guess the ignition switch could too.
Are you getting spark to the plugs ?
Fuel pressure ?
Is it cranking and not starting ?

Would a ingnition have any to do with the firing

It has everything to do with the firing. Ignition system consists of the computer, the crank and cam position sensors, the coils, spark plugs, ignition control module, the ignition switch, and the associated wiring.

If you have no fire (no spark), one would start by checking if ignition switch turning on causes the coil to receive battery voltage on the coil primary wire.
Always check for trouble codes when an engine problem develops. Codes stored in memory may have clues to why it won't start. If no codes are present and no spark (no ignition), suspect a bad crank position sensor (it can be tested by a shop), or possibly a bad ignition control module (also can be tested at a parts store for free).

I have 2000 tahoe will not start not getting no fire

Verify where you are losing spark. Check at the end of the plug wires and at the coil. If you have nothing from the coil then either the coil is bad, ignition module is bad, or the crank sensor is bad. If you have a code puller or can get one it will tell you if crank sensor or ignition module is the problem.

sounds like the immobilisor to me ,but it as i have never worked on this type of vehicle iam blind so to speak ,but have you changed the ignition module which iam sure a vehicle of this age will have ,either in the distributor or under the coil ,and if that doesnt work then change the pick up crank sensor wherever it is on this vehicle

The car will crank but does not have fire going to the coil pack

did you do a spark test?
This could be a number of things, your crankshaft sensor, coils or ignition module.
check the coils
  1. Remove the ignition coil(s).
  2. Using an ohmmeter, check the resistance between the primary terminals on the underside of the coil. The resistance should be 0.50-0.90 ohms.
  3. Check the resistance between the secondary terminals. It should be 5,000-10,000 ohms.
  4. If the coil failed either test, replace the coil.

1999 Chevy tahoe will not start

check the crank sensor. no signal from the crank sensor causes a no spark condition. best way to check is to put a scanner on and check for rpms.
the crank sensor is differnt from the cam sensor
