91' Honda Civic..Eng. bogs down when gas pedal push to the floor
I have 1991 honda civic automatic, The car run and drive/shift fine at any speed or RPM as long I dont stump/press on the gas pedal to the floor quickly other-wise it bogs completly, although the engine will not stall or cut off it just bogs down and will not pick up any speed. The car will not allow be to take off with a full throttle from a dead stop, I have to give the gas slowly to keep it from bogging. Any solution?

this car is fitted with a computer controlled engine/gearbox it will try to make you drive as economically as poss, if you let it,Try this, without using the gas padal let the car accelerate all the way to top gear on its own then from stop use 1/3rd of gas pedal upto top gear, try not to assist acceleration let it do its own thing.if you can drive like this all the time gas mileage will be considerably higher.it is made this way because makers have been told to reduce power/gas consumption in all cars....of course you can use kickdown but watch your fuel guage....
Check the pedal assembly (use a flashlight and look under the steering column) to see if the clutch mount has broken. Common for that model - the plate flexes rather than activating the clutch. If so - the assembly will need to be replaced.
Try pounding on the gas tank with a rubber mallet or similar tool. (careful not to dent the tank) Try starting it. If it runs, replace the fuel pump (it's nfg). I've diagnosed numerous fuel pumps this way. Remember the pump needs to be replaced, if you drive it, you don't know when it'll fail for good. Hope this helps. Please post the results.
