If it works only in the max position, the resistor thermal fuse has gone, a common problem in Passats. Napkin sell for 50p. If it also plays up on maximum then it could be a faulty switch or wiring.

SOURCE: The heater / ac blower

It is the blower resister. I purchasted one at auto zone for $18.00. It is located under the passenger side dash. You need to remove the glove box and the plastic cover under the dash to expose the blower motor. the blower motor resister is right next to the motor. Simply unplug the resister remove the two screws and replace. I did this and now my fan works on all speeds.

SOURCE: Heater/AC fan only works on High

Bencar1 is right. The problem is probably the resistor. But it also could be a burned terminal in the 4 prong plug that attaches to the resistor. There will be burn marks on one of the prongs of the resistor if this is it. Look for the obvious. Good luck.

Remove heater control switch

Before removing the heater switch on this 2006 citroen hdi I would first have the blower motor checked and the most common reason for this and other blower problems would be the blower resistor.

Your blower works on and off at times, first locate the blower motor and the resistor. the blower motor is located on the heater box, look under the pass/side of the dash, you may have to remove under dash cover to see blower.
When you have located the blower now look to the side on the heater box, there you will see a connector plug, it plugs into a connection on the heater box, this will be the resistor, the resistor slides into heater box and the end of it bolts to box to hold it in place and then the connector plugs into it, if you can not locate it then follow wires that plug into blower , follow wires back they will lead you to resistor,
next time blower does not work wiggle connector to resistor and see if blower turns on, if it does then resistor is the problem. also unplug resistor plug at resistor and check for any burning of connectors at plug and inside resistor.

I would bet its a bad resistor or the plug is brunt due to high draw from bad connections, if plug has burn damage to connectors then replace the plug along with resistor.

Heater fan not operating

Most of the time when a heater blower quits working it is the blower switch that fails rather than the motor. Blower switch can be accessed in the dash panel.

Heater fan won't run. I changed the fuse, but still no luck. What else could be the problem?

If it doesn't work at any speed try turning the car on, set the blower speed switch to high and tap the bottom of the blower motor with the end of a screwdriver. The blower motor is under the passenger side of the dash. If it works after tapping than the blower motor is bad. If it still doesn't work you'll need to start checking for power and ground at the blower motor.

The heater/ac blower has stopped completely after a period of time working intermitently. What could be the problem(s) and how do I remove/replace the blower switch on the dash. It only had three speeds...

There are two possible problems with it. The first is the switch, and the second is the heater motor itsself. Since the switch is easier and cheaper, I would start there. You'll have to pull off the trim ring on the dash...chevrolet likes to put a border like thing around the dash components that just snaps in in order to hide the gaps and screws. Once this is out, you will be able to access the screws for the panel that contains the switch. Then it'll be a matter of simply removing the switch, and replacing it. If that doesn't fix it, then you will have to replace the fan motor. It's possible that the brushes inside are worn out from use by now, due to age of the vehicle, causing intermittent operation. Good luck, and hope you get it fixed quickly.

Heater Blower won't work

Find the blower motor on the passenger side just above where the passengers feet would be. You may need to remove a panel (fairly easy). You will see a round metal housing about 4" in diameter. Turn on the ignition key and blower motor. Then tap the housing with a small hammer or a screwdriver. If the blower comes on.....replace the motor. If not, find the wires leading to that motor, undo the connector and check for power and ground in them.(You did check fuses first...right?)
