When I hit the breaks, the engine idles rough and makes a funny high-pitched whine.

Sometimes the left rear brake cylinder sticks.

When you hit the BRAKES, does the voltage drop below 13.3v
(cig lighter is good place to check this)
????

does this , only moving>
brakes can if fact sing. and is not a problem for stopping.
unless the wear limiters ,are hitting. spring there on the pads that
sing.

the engine running rough if related to brakes, is low main voltage power. use a voltmeter to makes sure power to the EFI system
is above 13.3v running. below is a dead charging system
are battery lugs clean?

SOURCE: Weird noises in drive and reverse

The high pitched whine in reverse sounds normal for a honda. Ever honda I have had makes a similar noise while in reverse. The spinning, scraping noise in drive is not normal. You might want to see a mechanic about that.

SOURCE: idle very rough

if you are sure you have spark on all cylinders, try removing the injectors and check the small filter connected at the tip goilg to the fuel rail. you might have clogged injectors

SOURCE: My Honda CRV (1998) is making a high pitched whine

Does the high-pitch whine exist when the engine is just running? Not moving (transmission is not in gear)? Running but with transmission in neutral (coasting down hill)?

I have a 90 chev blazer that runs rough when i apply the brake ,it also has a high idle and runs rich .?

I would look at the vacuum booster control unit .
This is the power assiest for the brakes it runs off the main engine vacuum,
If its leaking inturnailly you would lose engine vacuum that would make it run rough when you hit the brakes .
Also if the check valve inside of this unit were stuck it could cause a vary high idle
Try hitting the brake pedel when its idleing high in park and see what effict it has on the engine speed .
If it changes this is for sure your problem.

Makes high pitch whistle

Do you have the brakes taken apart once a year,
on all your vehicles, for rust removal, inspection,
needed work & lubing, that is required
Have to flush brake fluid every 2 years, if you
don't want moisture in the system ruining it
Don't know what the noise is,work on the
brakes & then get back to the noise, if it's
still there

When driving at speed i get a loud whine/shriek from rear driver side wheel, when breaks are applied noise goes. (disc ?) new discs fitted 3 years ago.

the brake pads have a wear indicator as the pads wear the indicator will tuch the brake rotor and make a high pitch shriek, so you need new brake pads.

2005 lincoln aviator. motor runs rough at idle

Had the same problem but i also had loss of power when driving. Listen for a high pitch whine in the engine compartment. If so then it's a vacuum line leak. Mine was under the plastic cover they have on top of the engine, rear of the engine near the firewall. Just check those rubber hoses and see if one of them developed a hole. If so just replace it and you should be good to go.

High pitched electronic/dentist drill sound when accelerating.

Probably the front differential, your probably hearing the famous differential gear whine. Change the oil, put Lucas for gears in it. You can get a hand operated oil pump to **** it out through the dip stick if it has one. Then fill it with the recommended amount.
