I pull the hood release inside the car but the hood doesn't pop and the cable feels loose. I crawled under the front of the car, see a hole on the side of the hood latch, stick a screwdriver in the hole and push towards the driver side and the hood pops. On looking after the hood is up I see the little steel ball on the end of the hood release cable has come loose from the spring loaded clip that is supposed to release the large spring the keeps the latch closed. Just pull the little steel ball back behind the clip, voila'.
The real trick was reaching up to stick a screwdriver in that hole to release the hood. It looks like the little steel ball could come loose from its clip again. It needs something to keep it captive.
Locate the interior hood-release lever under the dashboard on the driver's side of the interior of the car.
Lift up and toward you on the hood release lever. The lever is connected to a cable that releases the hood. The hood will pop up about 1/2 inch when you pull the lever.
Move to the front of the car and locate the exterior hood-release lever under the front of the hood. It is located near the middle of the vehicle, just beyond where the front edge of the hood meets the body. Lift up on the inner lever.
Lift up on the edge of the hood while holding the inner lever in place. When the hood is up, find the hood prop and raise it, setting its tip in the hood-prop mount on the hood, to hold the hood up while you work in the engine bay.
