Hood latch disconnected

I pull the hood release inside the car but the hood doesn't pop and the cable feels loose. I crawled under the front of the car, see a hole on the side of the hood latch, stick a screwdriver in the hole and push towards the driver side and the hood pops. On looking after the hood is up I see the little steel ball on the end of the hood release cable has come loose from the spring loaded clip that is supposed to release the large spring the keeps the latch closed. Just pull the little steel ball back behind the clip, voila'.

The real trick was reaching up to stick a screwdriver in that hole to release the hood. It looks like the little steel ball could come loose from its clip again. It needs something to keep it captive.

Hood cable broke or came loose on 1992 coupe deville cant get hood up

You'll have to try going thru the grille or from under the bumper to access the hood latch.
You might want to look at another GM product to gauge were the latch is in your car.
Sometimes you can use a coat hanger as a hook to pull the latch from outside the grille or between the grille and hood. Or use a long screwdriver from under the bumper.

Hood release inside my 2000 ford focus popped to release but I can not open the hood of the car? what should I do?

Might just be stuck. Have someone pull the release as you FIRMLY pound on the front of the hood in the middle with your fist (NOT A HAMMER ! ! ! !).

If that works and it opens, get some WD40 and spray the latch and cable, lever, etc... and then work the release lever before closing it again. If the cable has broken....... it is very difficult to release without some automotive knowledge. I'm betting it is just stuck...

Good Luck.

How do I open the hood of a Mitsubishi L300 ?

  1. Locate the interior hood-release lever under the dashboard on the driver's side of the interior of the car.

  2. 2

Lift up and toward you on the hood release lever. The lever is connected to a cable that releases the hood. The hood will pop up about 1/2 inch when you pull the lever.

  3. 3

Move to the front of the car and locate the exterior hood-release lever under the front of the hood. It is located near the middle of the vehicle, just beyond where the front edge of the hood meets the body. Lift up on the inner lever.

  4. 4

Lift up on the edge of the hood while holding the inner lever in place. When the hood is up, find the hood prop and raise it, setting its tip in the hood-prop mount on the hood, to hold the hood up while you work in the engine bay.

How open the hood. The interior hood release handle won't pop the hood.

I'm taking a guess that the cable your referring to is the cable inside the car, if so inspect the cable, can you see the metal cable inside the black housing, if you do, take a vice grips and grab onto tightly and pull, this should release the mechanism same as if you pulled the latch, otherwise if you can't see the cable within, crawl under the front of the car, between the radiator and grill, reach up to the latch and disconnect the cable that comes from the inside of the car, it will be the only cable coming to the latch assembly, as you remove it, it kind of just clips in place, you will see what it pulls to release the latch, grab a screw driver and lightly force the piece over to pop the hood, i know it can be frustrating from experience, took me a while the first time, and they sure don't give you much room to work with, but a little patience will pay off with this , wish you the best of luck!
