SOURCE: is the rz-0033 main relay

If two relays on the same car have two different part numbers on them, there is usually a reason why.

I have a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 3.7 engine. It wont start when key is turned. Replaced the starter and still wont start. new Battery and Alternator from previous issue. Not sure if its a relay.

Question that needs to be answered here is.... does it crank when you turn the key? That should determine how you attack the problem. Without knowing the answer to that question. I'd say check the batteries ground wire and the wiring from the battery to the starter. Possible corroded connection in the wiring harness if it isn't cranking. If it cranks fine and doesn't start. You might need to look into fuel pressure. You can probably swap the fuel pump relay with a known good relay. If all of that checks good, remember you need fuel and spark.

2003 Chevy Malibu has brand new starter.Battery is good.Anti theft n ot flashing.Just doesn't crank.Could it be starter relay?

Could be the starter relay but , could also be the park neutral safety switch , test by moving the gear selector to neutral . If it starts then more then likely the PNP switch is bad . Viewing wiring diagrams to see what all is involved in starter operation . Reading factory service info. for starter operation would be good too . The engine computer (PCM/ECM) probably energizes the starter relay . Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free-tsb Enter vehicle info. year , make , model an engine . Under system click on engine , then under subsystem click on starting . Click the search button , then the blue link . Looking at the wiring diagram it just so happens there is no starter relay . Ignition switch sends battery voltage through the PNP directly to the starter solenoid . Could be the main battery cable , voltage drop testing will show if that is the problem .

1989 honda prelude cant get to fire engine cranks but wii not fire

Sounds like the common main relay problem that plauges this generation of Hondas. These Matsuba relays are usually the problem. I am in the midst of the same issue with my CRX with a 1.5 liter transplant. Relay is located under the dash in the drivers compartment area of the vehicle. Identified as a small black box with a connector pluged into it. Will say Matsuba Rz and some serise of 4 numbers dependent on your particular relay. There are a lot of diagrams to check the relay. After detemining the type of relay you have just search Bing or Google for Matsuba (what ever seriese relay) schematic. My suggestion for a site: http://techauto.tripod.com/index.htm. Good luck!

On hot days my 92 Acura Integra will not start. If I push it into the shade for ten minutes...bam fires right up. If I drive in the summer and stop and then start like going to gas station then to store it...

It sounds like a common problem with the fuel pump relay. I am surprised your mechanics didnt think of this first instead of selling your lots of other stuff...or maybe I am not surprised!

The original part is a burnt orange colored RZ-0067 Main Relay and is found underneath the steering column. The relay's dimensions are close to the top flap of a hard pack of cigarettes. The relay is secured by a 10mm bolt, and is easily accessed by removing the front panel above your shins.
The said relay is frequently cited as the chief cause of not being able to start the car on a hot day. See http://www.honda-acura.net/forums/archive/index.php/t-85539.html, http://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1319817&postid=16772789 and http://autorepair.about.com/cs/troubleshooting/l/aa010301a.htm. It is also the least expensive (e.g. $35-50 for part) that a novice can do at home!
The RZ-0067 relay appears to have been replaced by the RZ-0063. See http://g2ic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27612. It is identical to the RZ-0067 except it is black. See http://63.150.115.104/CommerceGateway/picturesHonda%20J-Pegs%5C39400SH3003.jpg
This is a very common reoccuring problem on Acura Integras as well as other Honda vehicles.

Main relay location

The main relay is located behind left side of the dash and above and behind the fusebox and above the hood release.

Acura Main Relay location and removal procedures.

  • Honda Civic/CRX/del Sol 1984-1995
  • 1986-89 INTEGRA
  • 1990-93 INTEGRA #39400-SH3-003 RELAY (RZ-0063)
  • 1986-90 LEGEND #39400-SH3-003 RELAY (RZ-0063) (RZ-0046)
  • 1991-93 LEGEND (rz-0105)
  • VIGOR (behind the left front kick panel)
The main relay is located behind left side of the dash and above and behind the fusebox and above the hood release. The First generation Legend main relay location is between the steering column and the fuse box. It's deep in there. There was a little difficulty drawing the relay so it's actually very deep in there. There is a device (a relay) blocking the main relay. You will need to remove it to get a view of the main relay. The removal procedure is the about the same as the Accord's procedure.

integra98-01mainrelay.gif
Locating the main relay using your ears and fingers:
Steps:

1. Turn the ignition to ON. You should hear two clicks (a thousand of a second apart) under the left or right side of the dash board. One click is for the ECU/Injectors the other is for the fuel pump. At this moment the check engine light should come on.
2. Listen carefully at the moment the clicks engage (usually somewhere underneath the dashboard.) Reach in and touch the main relay.
3. 2 seconds later you should feel a click if the main relay is at least working or wait until it works. At this moment the check engine light should go out.
4. Turn the ignition to start and you should feel a click, turn engine off you should feel another click.
5. Most main relays should have seven terminals. Please check if the location is already listed below.

How do I get the main relay out?
Steps: See four ways below so you can get it out. First you have to reach high up in there and do all this with one hand and a flashlight.
efiremoveinstall.gif A. Unbolt the bolt using a 10mm socket (picture A) or
Ab. Unclip the clip from the steel tab and slide it apart (picture A) or
B. Separate the steel tab from the plastic case (picture B) with a large flat screw driver jam and twist between the plastic case and the tab or
C. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Unclip two clips I pointed with two arrows (picture C, or below) with a small flat head screw driver or with a strong thumb and then yank it out (D.) This is the preferred choice by many. Mechanics prefer choice A and maybe B. See detailed relay circuit photo.
