SOURCE: Where is the starter located on a 1993 mercury sable engine

trace the big cable that came from the positive terminal of your battery. at it's end is the starter.

or if it passes trough a big relay, then there is another big cable from that relay that would go down to the side of the engine, either left or right, that would be the starter.

SOURCE: 2000 Mercury Sable 24V 3.o engine. Need to know

yes about the upper intake and the only way i know how to check the coils is with a engine anilyser or if the check engine light comes on then you can have the codes pulled and that will tell you which cylender is missfiring this engine has a indevidual coil for each spark plug so thares 6 of them and thay slide right down over the sparkplugs

SOURCE: how to remove starter from 1993 mercury sable

Disconnect the battery cables. Locate the starter and disconnect the wiring. Next remove the mounting bolts. You may then remove the old starter. All this sounds easy, and it is, the only difficult part is accessing the starter. It is not easy to get to the bolts and you will likey have to do some feeling around and knuckle busting. But be patient, take your time and you should be able to pull off this repair. Good luck. I hope you find this to be very helpful.

Where is the diagnostic plug exactly located in my mercury sable 1992?

Under hood, driver side, front side of strut tower, mounted to fenderwell

Note, this is an OBD1 connector. You will need an OBD1 scanner to read codes.

Alternate methods to extract trouble codes:

USING THE ANALOG VOLTMETER See Figures 3 and 4
Service codes will be represented by pulsing or sweeping movements of the voltmeter's needle across the dial face of the voltmeter. Therefore, a single digit number of 3 will be reported by 3 needle sweeps. However, a service code is represented by a 2-digit or 3-digit number, such as 23. As a result, the Self-Test service code of 23 will appear on the voltmeter as 2 needle sweeps, then after a 2 second pause, the needle will sweep 3 times.
Connect the analog voltmeter as follows:

  1. Turn the ignition OFF .
jturcotte_1199.gif

Fig. Fig. 3: Voltmeter hook-up

jturcotte_1200.gif

Fig. Fig. 4: Analog voltmeter output code format

  1. Set the voltmeter on a DC voltage range to read from 0-20 volts.
  2. On all EEC-IV vehicles, connect the voltmeter from the battery positive post to the Self-Test Output (STO) pin of the large Self-Test connector. On all other vehicles, connect the positive voltmeter lead to the EEC STO line and the negative lead to engine ground, then jumper the EEC Self-Test Input (STI) to ground.

USING THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT (MIL) During the Self-Test,a service code is reported by the malfunction indicator light. It will represent itself as a flash on the CHECK ENGINE or SERVICE ENGINE SOON light on the dash panel. A single digit number of 3 will be reported by 3 flashes. However, a service code is represented by a 2-digit or 3-digit number, such as 23. As a result, the Self-Test service code of 23 will appear on the MIL light as 2 flashes, then, after a 2 second pause, the light will flash 3 times.

1993 Mercury Sable has a problem with engine fan not coming on sometimes when the temperature goes up. We have replaced the sensor for temp, water pump, radiator, and relay system($159). All of the above...

clean all connectors and take jumper wires from battery and connect to diconnected fan while moving the wires to determine which wire may be bad. Sensor may be higher temperature trigger or the cars temp sending unit may be misreading..

Why does my fuel pump stay running on my 1994 mercury sable and car will not start?

Look for an EEC relay and that may be the problem. Contacts may be welded on pump side... it also sends power to ignition with other contact that may be bad or won't close
