Diverter not working, no heat to floor 2000 Jimmy

When the control is turned to floor it diverts the heat to the defroster circuit. The upper portions of the heater / AC work fine; I'm taking the assumption that nothing is being diverted to the floor regardless of the function. What's the best way to get to the diverter to lubricate or replace?

Thanks...

It sound to me that you have a blending door actuator problem. This video shows you how to repair them. I would recommend that you replace them. Can be a little spendy but worth it in the long run.

SOURCE: vent selection not working After the transmission was rebuilt

They are controlled by vacuum ... a line must have been disconnected or broken when the trans was replaced. Remove the dog house and look for a small vacuum line broken or pulled apart.

SOURCE: When turned to defrost, no

I had the same thing happen on my 2000 Sonoma, last week. I quickly found it to be a broken vacuum line. Look between the brake master cylinder and the drivers side fender- up top. Easy to find, there are 3 vacuum lines connected to a tee. One goes towards/ and into the fender itself. On my truck this line was cut due to rubbing on the fender opening. Withthe engine running it was drawing a good deal of air. I put a screw (plug) in the open line and my vent controls now work. Unfortunately I cannot find a vacuum diagram to tell me where the line into the fender ends up.

Do you have a/the proportioning valve in your system? Pin needs to be pulled out for centering while bleeding.

Location of fuse for defrost

There should be a fuse in the interior fuse panel for the rear window defroster, but the windshield defrost is a mechanical connection from the heater controller. If your heater works out of the vents and the floor position, but not diverting air to the defroster you most likely have an issue with either the cable or the diverter door itself.

My 2012 Chevy Traverse will only blow on the floor not upper vents or defrost.

the flipper in the dash won't change it to the other vents. maybe worn out. vents could be plugged. there should be something inside your dash that when you press the button or change the setting on the heat diverter it should switch from vent or floor. it's plastic and wears down or maybe jumped the flipper thing to move the heat thru the vent system

No heat or defrost in my 2000 mercury sable

If you are referring to the air won't blow through the defrost vents or on the floor, you may have a stuck or broken blend door actuator. This part diverts air through the different settings: defrost, vent, floor etc. If you aren't getting warm or hot air regardless of the settings, you may either be low on coolant or have a bad thermostat.

2004 trailblazer dash vents fail to blow heat. All other vents work normally. I could not locate a vacuum hose that I thought might operate the upper dash vents. what do you suggest? Thank you.

this vehicle has electronic acuators that move the doors and do not use vacuum. the mode door actuator is bad causing this problem. there is a defrost acuator that works the defrost position and a mode door that works floor/vent operation. the defrost moves and diverts airflow up defrost vwents this is why you can still have defrost and floor.

95 chev. pickup. Cool air comes out at floor. Cannot divert any air to the vents or defroster vent. Can feel warmth on the black plastic box like thing near the floorboard so I know there is warm water...

It sounds like the actuator that diverts the air may have gone out. I would suggest replacing the blend-door actuator so that your air will go to the right places. The blend door actuator shouldn't cost more than $150.

There is a actuator on the right side of your leg while sitting in the drivers seat under the dash. It has a plastic rod for actuation manually actuate this diverter and should be the problem.

Climate control stuck in defrost/floor vents

The problem is probably a faulty diverter door actuator or vacuum problem at the HVAC plenum under the dash. This is a common problem - see YouTube for help diagnosing this:

I have a 97 SIERRA. HEAT WORKS FINE ON DRIVERS

If you have climate controls that are "slide type" knobs...likely that the cable that controls the diverter panel in the blower box is broken....

Check the control cable that operates the diverter door in the heater box at both ends, to make sure that it operates the door when you move the control lever.
