Fair Price for fuel pump and filter replacement on 96 Ford Explor

I just got the fuel pump and filter replace on my 96 Ford Explorer, 6 cylinders. The shop had to diagnose the problem because it would not start and they had to drain the tank because to do the job. Not sure if they did anything else. They charge me 841 dollars. Can someone tell me if this is a fair price

The labor manual for a 1996 explorer fuel pump gives you 2.1 hours, if you figure in a labor rate of $65 dollars per hour your at $136.50 the cost of the pump is 141.49 is advanced auto price for the average person, list is 219.39 which is what most shops charge so by my figures based on what my shop would charge you should be some where between $300 to $400 depending on there labor rate and i did price the most expensive pump that advanced auto sells for that model so i would say there bill was way to high.

It could be a blockage in the fuel line to the engine - after the filter.
I'm assuming you've tested the line to the filter, as gas would have come out when you took the filter off.
