I believe the air conditioner belt tensioner bolt is underneath the mounting bracket on the compressor, then you can remove the alternator belt by loosening the two bolts from underneath on the alternator then loosen the top bolt and be careful prying the alternator inward to loosen the belt you can short a wire connection. Remove one of the battery cables to be safe!

How do i change the timing chain

Disconnect the negative battery cable with a ratchet and socket, read the serpentine belt routing diagram located under the hood, then release the serpentine belt tensioner using a ratchet and socket, and carefully remove the serpentine belt from all of the pulleys with your hands. 2 Install the new belt according the routing diagram, then ease the belt onto the belt tensioner pulley and tighten the tensioner with a ratchet and socket.3 Reconnect the battery cable and start the car to test the belt.

How simple is it to change a alternator belt on subaru svx?

    1. Removing the Serpentine Belt
      • 1 Park your Subaru on a level surface and open the hood.
      • 2 Disconnect the ground (black) battery cable using a wrench. This will prevent the cooling fan from activating.
      • 3 Locate the serpentine belt routing diagram in your engine compartment and compare it to the actual routing of the installed belt. Make sure the routing on the label matches the actual routing. If they do not match or there is no label, note the actual routing on a piece of paper for later reference.
      • 4 Locate the belt tensioner pulley on your Subaru model. If the tensioner is equipped with a squared hole, use a large breaker bar with a 1/2-inch (13 mm) drive. Otherwise, use a ratchet and socket of the proper size on the tensioner pulley center bolt.
      • 5 Rotate the tensioner pulley away from the belt to release the belt tension.
      • 6 Pull the belt off of one of the pulleys and slowly release the tensioner pulley back into position. Do not let the tensioner pulley snap back or you may damage an internal component.
      • 7 Finish removing the serpentine belt from the rest of the pulleys and the engine compartment.
      Installing the New Serpentine Belt
      • 1 Match the old belt to the new one and make sure they are of the same length and configuration. It is normal for the new belt to be slightly shorter since the old one has been stretched through use.
      • 2 Route the new serpentine belt through all of the pulleys except the tensioner pulley. Use the diagram on the engine compartment or your notes, as a reference, to properly route the belt.
      • 3 Insert the large breaker bar into the square hole or the ratchet and socket into the tensioner pulley center bolt.
      • 4 Rotate the tensioner pulley in the same direction you did to release the belt tension.
      • 5 Slide the serpentine belt onto the tensioner pulley.
      • 6 Release the tensioner pulley back into position.
      • 7 Look at all the pulleys and make sure the serpentine belt is properly seated on each one. Otherwise, release the belt tension and adjust the belt.
      • 8 Connect the ground (black) battery cable using the wrench.

How do i release the tension belt ... cant seem to find bolt being referred to in other docs

Here's the procedure on how to release and replace the tension belt of your car.

    Step 1
  • Open the hood on the Volvo S-60 and find the serpentine-belt routing diagram. The diagram should be attached to the top of the fan shroud that covers the radiator. If not, draw out the exact routing method of the serpentine belt around each pulley with a pen and a piece of paper.
  • Step 2 Locate the serpentine-belt tensioner that is in the very center of the engine. The tensioner will have a square bolt head in the center of the tensioner pulley.
  • Step 3 Slide the open end of the 5/8-wrench onto the square bolt head in the center of the belt-tensioner pulley. Turn the tensioner pulley counterclockwise and slide the serpentine belt off of the tensioner pulley.
  • Step 4 Remove the serpentine belt from the other pulleys and pull the belt out of the engine compartment.
  • Step 5 Slide the new serpentine belt into the engine compartment and around the crankshaft pulley.
  • Step 6 Route the new serpentine belt around each pulley. Turn the belt-tensioner pulley counterclockwise again and slide the serpentine belt around the tensioner pulley. Release the tensioner and it will tighten the belt around the pulleys. Look over the belt to ensure that it is inside of each pulley.
  • Step 7 Crank the S-60 and look over the serpentine belt with the motor running. Let the engine run for about one minute and shut the engine off. Close the hood.

roll the crankshaft pulley around until u get the mark to line up with 0 or TDC. once u get the cover off mark the cam sproket to the head with whiteout and mark the crank gear to the block also. (in case they move on you. loosen tensioner and pry to one side.tighten tensioner bolt and remove the belt. install new belt and get the slack to move toward the tensioner side. (u may have to move the cam slightly to allow all the slack to go toward the tensioner. then move it back to the mark, making sure the crank didnt move. loosen tensioner bolt and let it spring toward the belt and apply pressure with yr hand a little more snug while u tightn bolt. then rotate the crankshaft 2 revolutions by hand and your marks should line back up. if the marks are more than 1/2 tooth off u must re do it!

Need to install serpentine belt on 1992 geo storm. Is there a tension pulley and how do you loosen it to get new belt on?

    Removal & Installation
    1. Except for the 1.8L engine, loosen the pivot and anchor bolts on 1 of the belt's components, then pivot the component sufficiently to release belt tension and remove belt.
    2. For the 1.8L engine, use a 3/8 in. breaker bar or ratchet to pivot the belt tensioner and release the serpentine drive belt, then remove the belt from the pulleys and the vehicle.
    To install:
    1. Position the belt over the pulleys.
    2. For the 1.8L engine, pivot the tensioner and install the serpentine belt. Make sure the belt is properly aligned in all of the pulley grooves, then gently pivot the tensioner into contact with the belt. Do not allow the tensioner to snap into position or damage could occur.
    3. Except for the 1.8L engine, adjust the belt tension and tighten the accessory mounting bolts.

    Serpentine belt on 1992 dakota

You don't mention which engine you have in your '92 Dakota, but it's likely the 3.3L and if so, here's the diagram. Even if your engine is not the 3.3L the principals for replacing the belt are the same.

Get a serpentine belt tension release tool (local parts store) and use it to take the tension wheel away from the belt, which will make it loose enough to remove by simply pulling it off one of the pulleys (the alternator will be easiest) and then wiggle it out of the engine bay. The tool should come with a selection of heads for the different variations of tensioner arms/bolts. Once the belt is removed, replacing it is the reverse process.

Hope this helps, and please rate my answer.
