Stalled wont start in cold weather. in warm garage now. where is the fuel pump. should we remove fuel filter and drain fuel line. need to start soon. thank you.
THE FUEL PUMP IS LOCATED IN THE FUEL TANK. IF IT IS WORKING YOU WILL BE ABLE TO HEAR IT SQUEALING WHEN THE KEY IS TURNED TO THE RUN POSITION PRIOR TO ACTUALLY STARTING THE VEHICLE. IT WILL BE A HIGH PITCH. IF NOT THEN THAT WOULD BE A STARTING POINT. ALSO FUEL INJECTED CARS HAVE A COLD START ENRICHMENT VALVE THAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM. THIS VALVE CAUSES A MOMENTARY FUEL RICH SITUATION SO THE ENGINE CAN START. IT IS BASICALLY A CHOKE FOR FUEL INJECTED ENGINES.

My 01 silverado HD does not start immediately like it used to. A mechanic explained that the fuel pump is a closed unit which delivers fuel at a measured pressure and that a common symptom is a decreasing amount of pressure and thus inconsistent starting until the pump eventully fails. He stated as a chevy dealer mechanic he saw it alot.
My engine is fuel injected, does it have a cold start enrichment valve and if so, where is it located? Second, this sounds a bit contrary to what I was told, what do you think? I would be willing to change out whatever is required, I dont like breaking down.
will start instantly when warm but when cold have to pump accelerator vigorously no fuel
