LR discoII 1999,shuts down on the road with Engine service+batter

Hello Sir
I am in Canada ,I have just bought a LR Dicovery II 1999 ,it starts fine and drives fine but suddenly during driving it shutsdown withh Engine service + battery error lights
and after a 2-3 minutes ,I can start and drive it again
Just one thing to mention the temprature here in northern Canada is -20 degrees

I am not so sure that because of the cold that the battery would FREEZE, and after a couple of minutes be ok

Really it would be useful to go and get the car plugged in for a computer check, to see if there are any codes stored, which may show the cause.

The only other thing i can suggest is that you look to see if all electric connections are in good order and that there is no blockage of fuel lines.

    hope this helps

Why does Land Rover Dicovery display "engine system fault" on dashboard please?

The engine's computer has detected a problem with the operation of the engine and the warning you have means you need to take the LR into the LR dealer or to a LR specialist who can scan the engine for the fault codes that the computer will now be generating. It may be a minor issue causing this but until the engine is scanned and the fault codes pulled up you cannot begin to diagnose the cause of the problem.

Don't delay having it checked out because if it is a significant issue that might get worse the computer can send the engine into "limp mode" and in that event the vehicle will be low on power and will only be able to be driven quite slowly.

Does 1999 dodge have a safe proof device to shut truck off when you remove batter cable

yes it does, how ever if you are removing batter longer than 24 hrs you will need to plug a 9volt batter threw the cigarette lighter to prevent the comp. from totally deprograming it self. some times it will but in30 % of the time the computer will need flashed after reinstall batter for it to work again. if you don't keep 9volt constantly running to the computer.

Don't run premium fuel (lights harder) Light weight oil like 5- 20 synthetic helps some, however,an engine heater would be best, simple to install, keeps everything warm, heater gets hot in seconds, engine life is prolonged.

I have a 1995 Cadillac Sedan Deville with 109k miles. I bought it new, and it's been without any major problems. Now there is a consistant engine shut down problem after driving or at idle for 7 minutes...

I have a similar issue with a 94 DeVille. Runs for a while then shuts down. Fuel pressure is good (I drove around with a pressure gauge attached and it still shut down with no drop in pressure). I've replaced the idle control and ignition module - no improvements.
I too have code P012 showing which to (potentially) the crank position sensor - which I can't seem to locate.
Any luck on your issue?

How do i resest service engine soon light on a 1999 Denali, it has stayed on for 2 days, but all the gages are fine and all fluids are full.

The service engine soon light can be reset using an OBD-II Scanner's Erase Code function (button).

I got one for $98 plus tax at Walmart that has this function and should work on your vehicle.

Otherwise, the code may erase after 40 or more cycles of starting and shutting off the car's ignition, if there isn't something causing it go on consistently.

I would read the codes stored in the computer to see if it's something simple to repair.

Good luck on clearing your codes.

It will just shut down and come rite back on line.

Try replacing the brain with a refurbished PCM. Google for the Florida company site and call the guys there and see what they think. I had a similar problem with 99 Durango and bought a refurbished brain for < $300.00 and 3 screws later my car was fixed with no problems since.

DISCOVERY II 1999

9 times out of 10 it is the ABS modulator for the disco II's. That being said, i hope you're sitting down...only a LR shop or a shop with auto logic can fix it and it's gonna cost you... A new modulator costs around 2k. if you can get the dealer to install a remanufactured one, it will cost you around 700 for the part and about 3-4 hours of labor.
