1995 Cadillac DeVille Logo

I have a 1995 Cadillac Sedan Deville with 109k miles. I bought it new, and it's been without any major problems. Now there is a consistant engine shut down problem after driving or at idle for 7 minutes from a cold start. It will not restart, and acts like a bad fuel pump. But, after 15 to 20 minutes of trying to restart, it will start, and run fine city and high way, as if nothing was wrong. It's as if a temperature sensor or relay tells the engine to shut down, but then resets. These are the error codes that show: P012H (no distributor signal),P023H(electric spark timing EST signal problem EGR), P052H(PCM memory reset),P053H(distributor signal interrupt), Code Poss Current I039H(loss of road sensing suspension data),I052H(keep alive memory error),No ACP,No SIR,No TCS code,PCM?. Help!!! Zak

I have a similar issue with a 94 DeVille. Runs for a while then shuts down. Fuel pressure is good (I drove around with a pressure gauge attached and it still shut down with no drop in pressure). I've replaced the idle control and ignition module - no improvements.
I too have code P012 showing which to (potentially) the crank position sensor - which I can't seem to locate.
Any luck on your issue?

Hi Venuti.. On my shut down problems with my 95 Deville, I took it into a Cadillac Dealer who said it was the "hall effect switch" and lower wiring both of which are on the under side of the distributor. To get to this switch, you need to pull out the distributor assembly. If you do this, you have to make sure you mark the position of the gears.. otherwise you will screw up the timing. I didn't want to sink any more $'s into the car, so I sold it for $2K. Hope you have better luck. Zak

johnandpatdz (Zak) - Thanks for the response. I suspect your issue is/was the same as mine. Since I have the time and want to just get rid of the car - I'm just about to pull the distributor and replace the Hall effect switch which I can now see but need a distributor wrench to access (another trip to the parts store). I too need to just sell this thing before the snow flies - its no longer a primary vehicle. If I can get $2k for it - I'd be satisfied.
Its been a great car up to this point...but the current issues is overwhelming.
Good luck to you as well.

1989 Cadillac Deville Sedan. What would cause my alternator to not charge? I have new alternator and battery, but the alternator charges sometimes?

Question edited for clarity and remove non-existent word 'dint'.
Question moved to model category.

Intermittent faults are the hardest to diagnose. The only way is to find an auto electrician and his pro grade scan tool computer can record what is happening and what causes it? The first thing I would do is check all the grounds.

What is the repair record for a 1995 cadillac seville sts? is it reliable or lots of trouble? looking at a 1995 with 51K miles.....

Very good mechanical reliability, not so good on the internal comfort items: heating, ac, electrical items...
51 k for a 15 years old car is exceptionally low milage, if you haven't bought this car from an old lady beware.

Why is my car leaking oil its a 1995 cadillac deville sedan with 108k on it

well, oil seals get old and an engine is still considered to be good, according to what I have read on the Internet, if it consumes less than 1 quart per 1000 miles. And, one should change the oil every 3,000 mi. according to most reputable oil change garages.

Granted if it's leaking any oil, that is not ideal.

Rubber seals and gaskets can get oil soaked and spongy or tightness of bolts that hold gaskets on can be too loose (but I wouldn't overtighten bolts as they only go in so far)..

95 sedan deville jf

The problem could be either one. To find out jump start the engine, with engine still running disconnect the positive battery cable. If the engine dies the alternator is bad. If the engine continues to run the alternator is working.
