My truck stutters while idling and seems like it wants to turn off. in fact it has turned off a few times, but not while i have been on the road. i have changed the plugs, wires and the fuel filter and the problem still exists (improved somewhat). when the truck is on and in "park" the rpms are at 900 when i shift to "drive" it goes down to 600-650 rpm and that is when the truck stutters and shakes, like it wants to turn off. what is going on with my truck? any help and advice will be greatly appreciated. please respond to my email if possible: [email protected] thanks.

Try cleaning the idle control Valve( IAC). Buy some brake cleaner and remove the duct work from the air cleaner system. start the truck and have somebody run it to about 100RPM and spray the cleaner directly at the valve. It is just inside the air cleaner.

1999 Mazda 626 2.0 5 speed. It stutters at idle when the a/c compressor kicks in while in defrost or a/c, smooths out when it isn't. Changed the a/c relay to no avail.

The AC takes a lot of power from the engine. Slip the belt off and see how freely the compressor turns. It should have some resistance, but not enough to slow the engine which also is trying to turn the alternator. There is also the possibility that your battery is failing, or the connections are not good starving the engine management of volts and amps..

Of course, it may also be electronic

My jep was running fine then it seemed to have a stutter. could not idle, then cleared up but only while driveing. when i came to a stop it wanted to stall. i parked, and when i tried to restart...

I've seen this problem a few times on the 4.0 engine and it turned out to be the crankshaft position sensor located on the bellhousing on the drivers side. Its not easy to see, look from under the truck.

1993 Ford Mustang LX 2.3L 38,000 miles automatic Car takes a few seconds to start when turning the ignition When it does start is stutters a second then returns to idle When just started car hesitates...

Try getting the codes pulled at a car parts shop. Usually the computer will keep it in its history. It sounds like it is an ignition problem. If there is no stored code I would look at things in this order: spark plugs, ignition wires, distributor/coil. If none of these seem to be the problem you may have to take it to a shop. If it was just the start and idle problem I would say it is something with what I said but that high RPM thing seems strange.

Caprice stutters at certain speeds and slightly

You may have an intermittent slow response on the rear O2 sensor, I'm not sure if you have a pre and post O2 sensor, off the top of my head, but I would get the system hooked up to a monitor to see if there is any pending codes (big change over from 1994 to 1995). Is it an OBDII system? As far as the stumbling, I have a 91 silverado with a 5.7L engine and it's had a very light stumble at idle since new, day one, and every sensor is on target, idle, 1000 rpm, 2000 rpms, 3000 rpms, and still has a slight stumble with all sensors within range. To this day it still has a slight stumble but it still runs great, Good luck, Gary

Idles rough ,loss of power ,sounds like its running on 2 or 3 cyl. changed fuel filter no diff. maybe a bad coil, 2003 beetle 1.8 turbo 4 cyl

I had this same problem on mt 2004 jetta. It had 85,000 miles on it. one day it bagan to idle rough but seemed fine when at higher sppeds/rpms. after a weekm I took it to the dealership and it turned out that a few of the coils/springs were shot. they also replaced my spark plugs, costing me about $550 total. But the car runs great again.
