The battery in my 2005 Cadillac Deville is not working any more. The battery seems to be completely dead as the starter won't go and the dashboard lights did not come on. I want to recharge the battery in my 2005 Cadillac Deville. Today, I bought a MOTOMASTER Intelligent Battery Charger Do I need to do be careful about uninstalling the battery to charge it? Earlier on today, I connected a jumper cable to my Cadillac's dead battery terminals and the light in the dashboard came back on. Thanks for any advice! CU Ron
You do not need to remove the battery to charge the battery. When you connect the charger you MUST be careful to connect the charger's positive lead to the positive terminal to the battery and the negative lead to the negative lead to the battery before you turn on the battery charger. Connecting the charger leads the wrong way around most likely damage the vehicle's electronics.
When you finish charging the battery turn off the charger before you disconnect the charger leads. This will prevent arcing between the leads and the battery.
Testimonial: "Thanks for your advice, Chris! In the past, I used to remove the car cables (leads) from the battery before charging it. I have read and been told that it is best to keep the charging current away from the car's electrical system. I think that I will do this as well. Do you know of anything that I should look out for or be careful about (apart from connecting the cables (leads) to the correct terminals ("+ to +" and "- to -")? Thanks very much for your help!"
You do not need to disconnect the battery from the car as long as you are careful.
When you disconnect the battery from the car you can also stop your car radio from working when you reconnect the battery. You will need to enter a code to activate your radio again, this is an anti-theft protection for your radio.

Seeing that it is now ten to two in the morning, I will wait until the morning to disconnect the cables (leads) from the battery and then I will connect the charger to the battery. I would not feel comfortable about just going to bed now and not keeping an eye on the charging process. Thank you, Chris, for your very fast advice!
