I own a 2000 kia sportage & I am having a hard time finding a heater core for this thing. If you go to an auto parts store all years they offer are to fat to fit into the slots the heater core goes inside of. Has anyone had to replace these and if yes where did you find the right heater core at? Please help I'm in Ohio & snow is on it's way soon! :(

SOURCE: removing/replacing a 2000 kia sportage 4x4 4 dr heater core

The heater is located under the dash board to the right and down from the radio. To remove and replace it you will have to remove the dash board down to the fire wall. Also, you will have to disconnect two hoses that connect up to it from the engine compartment. These are located in the back of the engine and down on the firewall about midway. Once you remove the dash board and locate the heater core you will be able to see the location of these two hoses. Removing the heater core is time consuming but it will save you about 700 dollars.

Where can I find a guide for changing my timing belt on my 2000 Kia Sportage?

Unless you're pretty mechanical adept, I wouldn't recommend that you try this. Too many things can go wrong if you aren't reasonable familiar with the mechanics of internal combustion engines.

If you still want to try this, then go to your local auto parts store and purchase a vehicle specific repair manual for your Kia. It'll outline exactly what you need to do.

    In any event....Good Luck!!

    2000 kia sportage no heat

It may be that the thermostat is not the proper one needed to regulate heater temperature operation. Check the thermostat. It may be rated lower than necessary to allow for heating purposes. And if you dare, you might try (for winter purposes only) installing a thermostat of a higher rating so the coolant will need to run about 20 degrees hotter before opening and thus making the heater core a bit hotter to facilitate better heating, if you can locate a thermostat of the same size that is which will fit a Sportage housing.
It seems to be determined that the core is not plugged or else this would have been my first bit of advice for you to address. If youre determined to continue with your own retrofit core make sure the housing you install it is sealed to allow your fan or blower to pump this heated air into the vehicle and not outside into the engine compartment. I hope this might prove useful to your endeavor, good luck.
