How to Recharge A/C on a 2001 Chevy Malibu

Dear Sirs:

Can you please tell me how to Recharge the A/C on my 2001 Chevy Malibu? I bought this little white 12 oz.canister @ a auto parts store to refill my A/C. I'm supposed to screw the canister in somewhere under the hood; Do you know where?

The low pressure port is located on the passenger side next to the fire wall. It will have a blue cap.

Where is the low-pressure port located, driver's side or passenger?

  • booboo20 Feb 01, 2011

it is located behind the alternator on a v 6 3.1 motor. it is covered with a blue cap. you need the 134a can adapter and hose to recharge it. it is best to have a temp gauge in your main vent to watch the temperature. I would use a ac gauge set to full understand what is happening in your system. High side pressure should be about 210 psi and the low side about 35 psi. good luck.

Go to the low pressure ac line under the hood, that is the larger of the two lines from the ac compressor, follow the line, the charging port is near where the line goes inside the car, it will have a cap over the port, remember to reinstall that cap after charging.

Chevy Malibu 2001 with 89,000 miles idling too high during park

Back to the mechanic - sounds like either an IAC motor or TPS sensor is the problem, but also could be the throttle cable (sticking leaving the throttle not fully closed).

Step-daughter just bought a 2001 Chevy Malibu. The turn signals aren't working. I read that is probably the hazard switch on the dash. Any thoughts?

Check the flasher unit and fuses first. The check the wiring from the switch to flasher unit and from the flasher unit to the individual bulb socket for continuity.

How to change a heater core in a 1999 Chevy Malibu?

Before starting this job I would get a repair manual. This is not a easy job, 6+ hours for an experienced tech with all of the right tools. And you may have to discharge and recharge the AC system.
