Question about 2005 Chevrolet Malibu
I took my Chevy into the dealership last week because my warning light had came on for my power steering and the wheel is difficult to turn. I was told that the electronic sensor in my steering column needs to be replaced. Is there anywhere where i can buy this part? Or is this something i need to have done only at the dealership
I took my car into the dealership on friday 02-13-09 only to find out my steering column needs to be replaced the motor is shorting out for the power steering ~ certain models of malibu's 2005 yr if your vin falls between 5F100001 - 5F250216 call Chevrolet they have a Technical Service Bulletin # 07126 - SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT - LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST - 7 yrs or 70,000 miles regardless of ownership - they will cover the cost of the repair ~ Chevrolet 1-800-630-2438 or

On Monday 8/23/2010 GM sent out an official letter explaining that this is a problem and if your car has less than 100K miles it will be covered under this extended warranty. My car never made the noise but the wheel always wanted to keep turning left. Please call your local dealership or GM and get the letter so it can be fixed for free.

It doesn't take power steering fluid.

My Chevy Malibu Max will be the last Chevy I own. Instead of recalling the steering column they extended the warranty to 100.000 mile. Of course it went out at 120.000 miles that is how you made enough money to pay off your debts by screwing the working class once again.

LEAVE THIS PROBLEM TO THE DEALER, U MAYBE ABLE TO BUY THE PART,HOWEVER STEERING COLUMNS USUALLY HAVE SPECIAL SCREWS U MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE THE TOOLS FOR, I WOULD LEAVE IT TO THE DEALER TO SAVE URSELF SOME TIME AND FUTURE HEADACHES

Yes this car does not take power steering fluid. You will need to take to dealership to get fixed cause its in you steerig column and dealerships carry the part but it will cost about 1200 hundred to fix unless your warrenty still good ... are went out 2 times and dealership fix problem.

Yes, they cover the cost, provided your problem is the motor. In my case the issue was the computer module, so now I am out $800 and basically Chevy told me that that is the price of owning a car. A part that is never checked in any service and when fails has the same result as when the power steering column motor fails but the offer no recourse. I'll be buying an import!
