Im looking for a answer for why my tail lights stay on even when the key is off its a 1997 dodge pickup 318 engine

The power for the taillights doesn't go thru the ignition switch. Sounds like the headlight switch might be bad.

On my 1997 Tracer Wagon the tail lights stay on after the engine has been shut off ?

check your ignition switch, by turning the key back and forth, do not start the car; do this couple of time; next check your relays, it may be sticking and not clicking back to off position. pull it out and tap on it and see if it reset. next check the headlight switch, it can be faulty sits on acessory setting.
