The manual says in sequence from left to right when you're facing the engine is: 4 3 2 1.
my firing order is stamped on the side of the distributor and its order is 4-2-3-1 from top to bottom and 4-3-2-1 from left to right for plugs

No spark to the plugs

do you have spark at the coil lead or not?
if spark at coil it could be pionts or rotor button or distributer cap.
if no spark at coil it could be a bad coil.

My 1988 honda civic spudders and will shut off

This is often due to a dirty idle speed control valve and throttle valve, please do the following service.

To correct this problem I want you to get a can of intake cleaner (ABOUT $5.00) from any local auto parts store like NAPA or Carquest, do not use carburetor spray, intake cleaner only or u will damage the Teflon coating inside the throttle valve and air bypass valve, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

How do I remove the

Retractable headlights must be up. Remove beauty ring (most cars it's chrome and takes a phillips screwdriver). Don't drop the screws. The retractable may have a cover instead of the beauty ring. Same; remove (with phillips?). It might take some penetrating oil on rusted screws. Sealed beam should come out part way until wire connector on back is visible; unplug. replace with new. OR; go to Auto Zone and they might do it for you if you buy the replacement there. Ray (garage owner)

Brake lights stay on

The problem is in the switch down on your brake pedal. It's adjustable, sounds like your button on this switch is staying out rather than going in when you release the brake. Good luck.

I have a 1988 honda civic it shuts down while Im

Sounds like your fuel pump relay is going bad. On most honda models this is located under the dash on the driver's side of the car. If the relay is okay, then the next step would be to replace the iginition switch. On my 1988 Honda it would not start up after I shut it off and went into the store and came back out. My brother's Honda would just shut down when turning a corner or changing lanes. After changing his fuel pump and fuel filter, we changed the ignition switch and that solved the problem. If I were you I would change the ignition switch.
